The Sea Breeze Beach Hotel is an all-inclusive property located on a quiet side street on the South Coast of Barbados. The hotel is a good value for a four-pearl property, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with both family-friendly and adult-only areas of the hotel. Amenities include two beaches, two pools, three restaurants, a kids' club, and a basketball court. However, the rooms, though clean, aren't as upscale as one might expect for this caliber of property. The hotel’s sister property, Ocean Two, has more modern rooms and a livelier atmosphere. The nearby Bougainvillea Beach Resort also has more updated rooms and is a good value, although it is not all-inclusive.
Scene
Casual and friendly, with both family-friendly and adult-only areas
The Sea Breeze Hotel is made up of three-story bright yellow buildings set right on the beach. The hotel went through a million-dollar refurbishment in August 2013 that included improvements to the pool, deck, and kids' club, but the '70s-style buildings and red tile floors still look dated, as do the hallways and stairs. The lobby is modern and chic with gray furniture, yellow accents, rustic wood tables, and a large beach photographic mural on the wall as well as enticing views of the adult-only pool and beach. The lobby has a bar on the left and a convenience store on the right. Guests are offered a cool towel and welcome drink at check-in. The Sea Breeze has an inclusive, relaxed, friendly atmosphere, however, it is certainly not rowdy at night. Although the hotel caters to families (it has a kids' club and game room), it is not overrun with screaming children.
Location
On quiet side road, close to nightlife and entertainment in St. Lawrence Gap and Oistins
The Sea Breeze Beach Hotel has a great location, situated on Maxwell Coast Road, a side street a 15-minute walk from St. Lawrence Gap and a five-minute drive from Oistins. Both are hubs of nightlife, restaurants, and activity, and the hotel is close to each but is quiet and peaceful. It's a 12-minute drive the Grantley Adams International Airport and Bridgetown takes 15 minutes by car. It's a 22-minute drive to Sandy Lane Country Club Golf Courses, a 26-minute drive to Harrison's Cave, and just over half an hour to Saint Nicholas Abbey and Cherry Tree Hill.
Rooms
Airy but plain rooms showing a bit of wear
The 78 rooms and suites at Sea Breeze don't live up to what most would expect from a hotel of this caliber, and show the hotel’s age. Rooms come with large, dark wood closets in the hallways and the bedrooms are furnished with wicker and wood furniture. The rooms have a soft yellow accent wall, old reddish brown tile floors and minimal artwork. The beds are perhaps the most modern decor feature, with crisp white bedding (including 400-thread-count linens) and dark accent pillows. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, irons and ironing boards, electric kettles, safes, and a clock radio. Every room also has a balcony, and some have excellent ocean views.
Features
Spacious beach and two pools
Sea Breeze sits on a huge expanse of beach that is accessed via two points, one on each side of the hotel. The west beach is rugged but scenic. There's a sandy fenced-off area with a stone walkway and a cabana where guests can lounge, but the beach itself is narrow and the water is a bit rough. The other beach is spacious, with a large, white stretch of sand and calm turquoise water. There are plenty of blue cushioned loungers with hood overhangs lined up along the sand. A small rock wall delineates the end of the beach. The hotel also has a non-motorized water sports provider on-site that rents out equipment for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, body boarding, and snorkeling. The Sea Breeze's stunning adult-only pool is located directly outside the lobby and is blue and inviting, with views out onto the ocean. Cushioned lounge chairs and yellow umbrellas are set up around the perimeter. A few steps up from the pool is a scenic sun deck with more lounge chairs and three whirlpool hot tubs. The family pool is located on the other side of the property near the East Beach. The pool is rectangular with a small shallow section for kids on one end. Green cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas surround this pool as well.Other amenities include an on-site kids' club with a Nintendo Wii, a TV, and a computer. The club organizes arts and crafts workshops and treasure hunts. There is also an outdoor recreation area with a pool table, a ping-pong table, and a basketball court. The property's decent-sized fitness center is located on the ground floor and has elliptical machines, treadmills, stair climbers, and dumbbells. Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and most common areas.
All-Inclusive / Food
Three restaurants on-site, each with its own distinct menu
The hotel's main dining spot, the Mermaid Restaurant, serves breakfast, buffet lunches, and a la carte or buffet dinners with a menu that changes every few days. The restaurant is open-air and has beautiful ocean views and a chic piano lounge. Fish Pot Bar & Grill is a casual, open-air grill located by the family pool and is open for lunch. It has a bistro menu that includes grilled steak, chicken, and fish, as well as a variety of salad options. Azul Restaurant offers fine-dining in an open-air setting with beautiful views and all-inclusive guests are invited to dine there twice during their stay. Supplemental charges apply for some menu items.
Weddings
On-site wedding planner and customizable packages
Sea Breeze frequently hosts weddings for up to 130 people and has a full-time on-site wedding planner (who also works with the hotel’s nearby sister property, Ocean Two) to help guests plan their big day. There are six wedding locations to choose from, the most popular of which is the hotel’s gazebo that overlooks the ocean. Receptions can be held in the piano lounge or in the scenic, upscale Azul Restaurant. The traditional wedding package includes a marriage license, an officiant, a cake, bouquets, and boutonnieres, and can be customized to suit each couple's needs.
