Baymont by Wyndham Galveston

Part of the Wyndham hotel chain, Baymont Inn & Suites Galveston is a standard chain hotel with well-maintained interiors. The lobby is a fairly open area, with tiled flooring, a reception desk, and singular sofa. Directly off the lobby is the open-plan breakfast room with the buffet station on one wall and the standard tables and chairs taking up the rest of the room. Outside, the swimming pool area is quite small with only a few sun loungers and a small shaded-area with seating. Guests have complained that both the breakfast room and swimming pool area get quite crowded when the hotel is full. Guests here are mostly leisure travelers looking for a budget-friendly spot close to the beach. 

Baymont Inn & Suites Galveston is located at the end of a dead-end street, just off the main beachfront road in Galveston. Its location means that it takes a bit longer to get to nearby attractions, though there are a handful of restaurants, shops, and take-away joints within an easy walking distance. Galveston Beach is only three minutes on foot and Stewart Beach is a 14-minute drive from the hotel. Galveston Island Convention Center can be reached within a 12-minute walk. Other nearby attractions include: Schlitterbahn Waterpark (seven-minute drive), downtown Galveston (10-minute drive), Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier (10-minute drive), Moody Gardens Amusement Park (13-minute drive), the historic Strand District (15-minute drive), and Galveston Island State Park (15-minute drive). Scholes International Airport is an eight-minute drive. There's nothing in the way of public transport near the hotel, so having a car is advisable. 

The 89 guest rooms at Baymont Inn & Suites Galveston are pretty standard, though they're still pleasant and well-maintained. Decor is drab: brown carpets, dark wood furniture, white bed linens and brown bedspreads, off-white walls, beige curtains, and rather generic nature-themed artwork on the walls. Most rooms include two beds (either queen- or king-size). Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, desks, telephones, irons and ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms include shower/tub combos with hairdryers, Matrix toiletries, and coffeemakers. Each room features a small private balcony with two chairs, though don't expect any spectacular views.

The list of features at Baymont Inn & Suites Galveston is reasonable for a hotel within this category. There's a free buffet breakfast each morning, however guests have complained of the limited variety which consists mostly of waffles and cereals. There is no full restaurant available, but there's a vending machine with a variety of snacks and beverages. Outside, there's a small swimming pool with a few surrounding sun loungers and small shaded area with benches that overlooks the parking lot. The fitness center is cramped with a limited selection of dated cardio and weight-training equipment. For business travelers, there is one on-site meeting room that can cater for up to 25 guests. There is also a small business center with two internet-connected computers. On-site parking (including space for buses and trucks) and Wi-Fi throughout the property are free; though there have been complaints of spotty Wi-Fi. There's also a self-service coin-operated laundry room, along with an ice machine.
