The 30-room Schooner's Cove Inn has arguably the best location in Cannon Beach. It's situated on a wide stretch of sandy beach just a block from the town's main drag of shopping and dining on South Hemlock Street. Nearly every room has a full kitchen and view of the Pacific Ocean -- many have gas fireplaces. A good upper-middle-range choice for both couples and families, the nautically-themed property has free (spotty) Wi-Fi, an ocean-facing indoor hot tub, and a grassy beach front lawn with barbecues and picnic tables for guest use. There's no restaurant on-site.
Scene
A nautical theme and homey touches
The Schooner's Cove Inn takes its design cues from its seaside location. The lobby is in a separate building from the rooms and shaped like a wood-sided sail. Front landscaping is lush with a green lawn, bushes, and colorful flowers. Behind the lobby is the parking lot and similar buildings with guest rooms, another lawn and a beach are behind the rooms. Though not large, the lobby at Schooner's Cove Inn is inviting and, like the guest rooms themselves, favors understated decor and furnishings in an effort to let the location take center stage. Guests will find coffee, fruit, and cookies for the taking and a small, one-desk business center with an adjacent DVD library.
Location
On the beach and one block from Cannon Beach's center.
Situated on a magnificent stretch of sandy Oregon beach, the Schooner's Cove Inn takes full advantage of its enviable vantage point on the Pacific, with views from most guest rooms. The hotel's also just one block off South Hemlock, the main drag in Cannon Beach, which is lined with numerous shops and restaurants. There's a local supermarket a five-minute walk away. Outdoor parking at the Inn is free and plentiful.
Rooms
Neutral decor, kitchenettes, and (most) Pacific views
30 well-appointed and spacious rooms are more like small apartments than hotel rooms. Furniture is comfortable, but neutral, letting the large windows -- in some rooms double-height -- bring the beauty of the outside in. There's a variety of room sizes, and the vast majority come with kitchens outfitted with burners, microwaves, sinks, and dishes. Some room categories have gas fireplaces; all have flat-screen TVs and hairdryers. All rooms except the Skipper rooms have a separate seating area and small table; Landlubber rooms are the only ones that overlook a parking lot instead of the ocean.
Features
Sandy beach, indoor hot tub, and free coffee
The Schooner's Cove Inn doesn't have a whole lot in the way of features, as most guests cook in their kitchens and enjoy the beach. There is an indoor hot tub in front of a window that overlooks the water, but sometimes reservations are required to use it. Outside, guests can use the grassy lawn with grills and tables, or enjoy the sandy beach. Free cookies, granola bars, fruit, and coffee are available in the lobby. Wi-Fi is free, but spotty, or guests can use a desktop computer without a charge. DVD rentals are available to borrow and there's a coin-operated washer and dryer.
