Bacolet Beach Club
Bacolet Street 72

Located along a popular, well-trafficked tourist road, the three-and-a-half pearl Bacolet Beach Club sits on an intimate, secluded white-sand beach with lovely bay views. Features are impressive for a resort this size, and include two ample infinity pools, a beachfront bar, and a restaurant with all-day dining. The 20 rooms have homey and airy if slightly hodgepodge style, and most have four-poster canopy beds; all offer water-view balconies. Free hot breakfast buffet, parking, and Wi-Fi help add value. While the small beach disappears at high tide, it's still a major selling point; at the similarly priced Magdalena guests need to take a shuttle to the sand.

Crown Point Beach Hotel
Old Store Bay Rd

The highlight of the Crown Point Beach Hotel is its prime location on Store Bay Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Tobago. It also offers low rates, which appeals to many guests traveling to the area on a budget. The hotel does have a pool, restaurant, and tennis courts, but some areas of the hotel, such as the tennis courts, are in need of maintenance. All rooms feature small kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.

Tropikist Beach Hotel & Resort
Old Store Bay Road

Tropikist Beach Hotel and Resort is a three-pearl beachfront property in Tobago’s Crown Point neighborhood, a three-minute drive from the airport. The resort’s 47 air-conditioned rooms -- some with ocean views -- are beachy and basic, and maintenance issues can be common. The hotel’s grounds are full of blossoming flowers and its two pools, a whirlpool, and romantic waterfall nook, are by far its top draws. There's also a small sandy beach, though it's unfortunately not swimmable and there aren’t any lounge chairs for relaxing. Two restaurants include a breakfast spot serving the free morning buffet, and the resort also has a dive shop and free spotty Wi-Fi. Given the number of problems here, it's worth considering Kariwak Village, which has lush grounds and an amazing restaurant at higher rates.

Coco Reef Resort & Spa Tobago
Coconut Bay, Bon Accord Village

Coco Reef Tobago is a three-pearl oceanfront resort in Tobago’s Crown Point area. Its 135 air-conditioned rooms and villas are past their prime, with dated tropical interiors and wicker furniture, though it's hard to complain about the ocean views in some. The resort has two restaurants that receive mixed reviews and two bars, including a posh cigar and Champagne bar. The ambling grounds are full of blossoming flowers, and features include a long sandy beach, a pool, a dive shop, and two tennis courts with lights for night play. Wi-Fi isn't free, and the dress code at Tamara's Restaurant won't please everyone, making an otherwise beachy spot feel a little stuffy. For a more sophisticated stay with a lost-in-paradise feel, the cheaper rooms at Blue Waters Inn are worth considering.

Candles in the Wind
145 Anthony Charles Crescent, Bon Accord Development

Candles in the Wind is a two-pearl budget guest house in Tobago’s Crown Point neighborhood. There are eight air-conditioned rooms and a 22-bed dorm complex on its top floor. Private rooms are big, but dated, with small internet-enabled flat-screen TVs and en-suite bathrooms. The dorm has twin beds, a TV room, and an old-school weight bench. Amenities include free laundry machines, two communal kitchens, and lots of balconies, though noise can be an issue. There’s no restaurant, so its location near central Crown Point is a big plus -- many bars, restaurants, and two beaches are within a short walk. Wi-Fi and bicycles are available, but aren’t free. For a budget stay with a beachfront location, simple rooms, and tasty restaurant, it’s worth pricing out Miller’s Guest House.

Kariwak Village Holistic Haven and Hotel
Store Bay Local Road, Kariwak Village Street

Kariwak Village Holistic Haven and Hotel is a three-pearl property with a chlorine-free pool, full-service spa, and an amazing restaurant in Tobago’s Crowne Point neighborhood. Its 24 cottage-inspired, air-conditioned rooms have rough-hewn wood ceilings and stained-glass porthole windows that give them a bit of charm. The hotel’s grounds are full of blossoming flowers and grassy fields, and there's an open-air studio where free yoga, t’ai chi, and qiqong classes are held. The tasty restaurant serves healthy, local cuisine and a huge on-site organic garden grows much of the restaurant’s herbs and vegetables. Breakfast is included with all stays. For a beachier hotel set on a beautiful secluded bay, with two tasty restaurants and modern rooms with ocean views, it’s worth considering the slightly pricier Blue Waters Inn.

Native Abode
13 Fourth Street, Bon Accord

Located on a quiet residential road five minutes from Store Bay and the airport, the three-pearl Native Abode Hotel is a typical bed-and-breakfast with only the most essential amenities. The vibe is akin to spending the night at a relative’s house, where the focus is on the charming atmosphere and in-room comforts. The property has five modern guest rooms with free Wi-Fi, large, 3D flat-screen televisions, and kitchenettes. The English-speaking Tobagonian owners are hands-on, serving made-to-order breakfasts and chatting with guests in the common areas throughout the day. For a small hotel with additional amenities, travelers should check rates at the nearby Bacolet Beach Club.

Shepherd's Inn
Storebay Local Road

Located along a popular tourist road, the small, two-and-a-half-pearl Toucan Inn is within walking distance of Crown Point's restaurants and beaches, and a five-minute drive from Arthur Napoleon Raymond Robinson Airport. With a clean pool, tropical decor, a popular restaurant with live music, and a lovely outdoor garden, the hotel's public area are nicer than its rooms. The 20 island-themed rooms are adequately sized, but offer barebones amenities that only include air-conditioning, safes, and simple bathrooms. For those looking for a bed-and-breakfast alternative, check rates at the nearby Native Abode Hotel, though it's farther from the beach.

Salybia Nature Resort & Spa
3/4 Mile Post, Toco Main Road 13

Tucked along a quiet road on Trinidad’s east coast, the small, two-and-a-half-pearl Salybia Nature Resort & Spa sits on a rocky beach with lovely Saline Bay views. While the 21 rooms are outdated, they all offer ocean view balconies, air-conditioning, and a good amount of space. Along with a clean pool, full-service spa, and a tropical-themed restaurant, the hotel ticks most of the expected boxes for a solid waterfront hotel. However, the rocky, unswimmable beach, uncomfortable beds, dated decor, and a general inattentiveness to detail overshadows many of the positives.

Grafton Beach Resort
Stonehaven Bay

Situated along a well-traveled beach road in western Tobago, Grafton Beach Resort overlooks Stonehaven Bay -- a popular spot for nesting leatherback turtles each spring. On paper, it ticks many of the essential boxes for a two-and-a-half pearl waterfront getaway, including a lively beach bar, open-air restaurant, and a clean pool with swim-up bar. But an aging decor, mediocre food, and an often crowded public beach leave a lot to be desired. Each of the 78 rooms are spacious and dated, with mini-fridges, air-conditioning, and private balconies or terraces, some with ocean views. Travelers willing to part with a little more cash will be happier at Blue Haven Hotel, and intimate spot with ocean views and handsome rooms that's about 20 minutes away.
