InnAthens is a mid-range boutique hotel set in the back secret garden of a restaurant in central Athens, a four-minute walk to Syntagma Square. The location is ideal for exploring the city by foot, as there are several dining, shopping, city attractions, and public transport options within walking distance. The entire hotel features a contemporary design with minimalist, artsy interiors. Located in the hustle and bustle of Athens, Plaka Hotel is a mid-range property with 67 guest rooms in an excellent location for sightseeing. Both the Parthenon and Acropolis can be reached in less than 15 minutes by foot. The rooftop lounge is the highlight of the hotel with its comfortable seating and stunning views of the Acropolis. Guest rooms are on the small side however and some still have tube-style TVs. The free breakfast buffet offers Greek items like feta cheese and olives. There’s no pool or fitness center, and guests looking for posher accommodations may want to check out the similarly priced Y Hotel, which has chic guest rooms and a fitness center but no rooftop bar.

A well-maintained, family-run hotel, Hotel Tony is located between Filopappos Hill and Syngrou Avenue. The property is close to Syngrou/Fix Metro Station and the Dora Stratou Greek Dances Theatre. It’s a warm and welcoming place to stay, and the garden is picturesque with plenty of pretty potted plants. Tony, the owner, is quite a character himself -- a larger than life man,  and very funny -- whose tastes in furnishing and decor matches his personality. This mid-range, 45-room hotel is a clear favorite for families, couples and older travelers desiring a quiet, safe and convenient location. Rooms are modern and clean. Common areas include a library, a small rooftop deck, and a cute children's' playroom with a Little Tykes house, toys, books and markers. The location in the heart of Plaka is excellent, and within a 15-minute walk to the Acropolis. Younger travelers looking for a slightly trendier vibe may want to consider the similarly priced Athens Center Square.

Not far from downtown Athens, the 16-room value Marble House is a friendly, family-run hotel ideal for tourists on a budget. It's situated near a metro station and bus stop, plus many of the city's sights can be reached on foot. There are almost no amenities to speak of, but the property's peaceful cul-de-sac location and quaint terraces with plenty of greenery are appealing. A classic theme is found throughout the public spaces, while colorful rooms are more simply decorated. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, safes, and mini-fridges, but some share bathrooms or lack balconies. Note that in-room air-conditioning and the continental breakfast require fees, but Wi-Fi is free. It's worth comparing rates with Athens Studios, which offers free breakfast and a sports bar.

Colorful and fresh, the Novus City Hotel is an upper-middle-range property, just north of Athens' historic center. Many of the city's attractions can be reached on foot, plus a subway station is around the block. The 85 spacious rooms have solid desks, flat-screen TVs, and AC, but traffic from below can make them noisy. Food here is generally well-reviewed, including the free buffet breakfast. Child-friendly menus cater to little ones, but there are no dedicated kids facilities, nor any fitness amenities. Families should consider the Novotel Athenes, which offers more pool space, plus kiddy fun. 

Katerina Hotel is a mid-range property located near a metro station in Metaxourgeio, but it is far from sightseeing attractions. It's close to some run-down neighborhoods that not all travelers would be comfortable in. The hotel’s 51 rooms are slightly dated and have small showers, but adjoining rooms that can accommodate up to four people are available. A tasty breakfast buffet is included in the room rate, and the hotel has a bright cafe/bar area. Guests might want to check out the Plaka Hotel, a three-pearl property with a seasonal rooftop lounge that's within walking distance of the Acropolis, but has slightly higher rates than the Katerina.

The mid-range Central Hotel Athens is located in the Old City and offers views of the famous Acropolis from some rooms, private patios, and its modern and chic rooftop terrace bar. Its 84 rooms feature a bright and clean contemporary style and modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi, but they can be quite small and only some have coffee/tea facilities. The hotel has a hot tub and offers free breakfast, while business travelers are catered to with a few meeting rooms and a business center. But many guests complain about the property's tiny elevator. The Athenian Callirhoe Exclusive Hotel is a good nearby alternative with a fitness center and multiple on-site dining options.

Located 500 meters from Monastiraki station and the nightlife of Psiri, it’s a top choice for travelers who want to explore Athens on foot. Competitive prices include a buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi. This is not a super fancy hotel, but it has everything most guests need.

The behemoth-size Divani Caravel is a luxury chain property that has 471 rooms, 42 suites, and two presidential suites, and offers gorgeous panoramic views of the Acropolis. Located close to the Kolonaki district of Athens, the hotel is near art galleries, authentic Greek restaurants, shopping, and historical sights. The hotel is pleasant, with marble flooring in a spacious lobby, an outdoor heated swimming pool, and a large indoor spa. Rooms are fresh, and feature artwork and creative lighting. But overall, the hotel lacks a “wow” factor, and it could use an update. The ubiquitous office ceiling tiles and dark-brown furniture age the place. Visitors might want to check out the Royal Olympic Hotel, another luxury hotel nearby where rates are generally lower.

The 76-room Airotel Alexandros is an upper-mid-range hotel in a convenient location in Athens close to the Acropolis and two metro stations. There's no pool or spa, but the hotel does have a small business center and private parking. The grounds are well maintained, and rooms here are clean and cozy, with a fresh, minimal feel in the more recently updated rooms, which come with flat-screen TVs and stocked minibars. Some lower-level rooms are not renovated and are sporting dated decor. The free buffet breakfast is full of tasty and healthy choices, and Don Giovanni is a traditional, cozy restaurant with a decent buzz. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.

The 22-room Acroplis Museum Boutique Hotel is a mid-range hotel in the heart of Athens' historic center. Ideally located for tourists, the hotel is within walking distance of major attractions such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, and Plaka. Rooms vary in style -- some feel dated and dark, while others feel bright and modern and have balconies -- and can be small, but accommodations are clean and well-maintained. Rates include free breakfast and Wi-Fi, but there are few additional features.
