Rembrandt Square Hotel occupies a five-story building with a black facade located directly above one of Amsterdam's iconic coffee shops. Interiors are painted in bright and cheery colors, and a few potted plants and flowers add a pleasant touch. Wall murals, including one depicting a Dutch skyline of windmills, brings an element of fun into the space. The public areas are kept neat and tidy, and look generally well-maintained. The small reception area is made up of just a reception counter lit by a cluster of globe pendant lights. Stairs here are narrow (there's no elevator) and can be a challenge to negotiate with luggage. This is a budget hotel catering to young travelers, with a casual and friendly vibe. It's a popular place to stay with young solo travelers and groups. 

The hotel is named after the square it's located on, Rembrandt Square, which is in the heart of Amsterdam. This is a popular district for a night out, because of the many bars, coffee shops, nightclubs, and restaurants located here. There's a streetcar stop opposite the hotel, and many tourist attractions are within walking distance.

Guest Rooms at Rembrandt Square range from Twin, Double, Triple, and Quadruple Rooms, but all are on the small side, and some have low ceilings, which can make them feel a bit claustrophobic. On the plus side, they're cheery with crisp white walls accented with dashes of teal in window frames and exposed ceiling beams. Custom graphic artwork of the cityscape on a teal background gives a splashy focal point.

Each room has a sink, flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, electric kettle, and a few pieces of basic furniture, like a small table-and-chairs set, bedside table, and mirror. The shared bathrooms are tiny but spotless, and have a renovated look. They're equipped with toilets, sinks, and narrow glass shower stalls with sliding doors.

Many rooms have views over Rembrandt Square, while others overlook an uninspiring inner courtyard. With the hotel located just above a cafe, noise can be a real nuisance, especially during the summer when windows need to be left open: There's no air-conditioning. Also, some rooms have thin walls and are poorly soundproofed. The rooms on the upper floors and at the back of the hotel may be a better choice for a good night's sleep. (Staff can provide ear plugs if needed.) 

For a budget property, Rembrandt Square Hotel offers its guests some nice extra features. Room rates include a free breakfast, served in a cafe next door to the hotel. The continental-style breakfast includes cereal, toast, croissants, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, and coffee and tea. There's a small lounge with a leather couch and armchairs, and a table and chairs, where guests can relax and mingle and make themselves a free cup of coffee or tea. There's also a soft drink vending machine. Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the hotel. Guests can store luggage for free.
