Trick-or-treating may be reserved for kids, but that doesn't mean adults can't have some fun on Halloween, too. Haunted houses, elaborate costume contests, and masquerade balls are all fun ways to celebrate the spooky holiday. Many hotels are also fans of the ghoulish day (or at least know that their guests are) and are offering Halloween-themed events, from kid-friendly jack-o-lantern decorating to sultry, DJ-led parties for the 21-and-over crowd this October. Check out the 10 best hotels for Halloween events in U.S. this year and start brainstorming your costume.

Ace Hotel, Los Angeles

The hip, music-themed Ace Hotel, in downtown Los Angeles, has industrial-chic, dimly-lit rooms that often come with Martin Guitars and Ace x Rega turntables, plus curated selections of vinyl records. This Halloween the property is hosting a Black and White Ball, a 21-and-over costume dance party with DJs, tarot card readings, aura photography, and other goodies. Tickets start at $25 and the party begins at 10 p.m. Before the event, there will also be a screening of the 1931 classic Dracula, with a live performance of the film’s score by Philip Glass and company. Tickets can be purchased here.

Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island’s best known property, Grand Hotel is a tourist destination unto itself. Built in 1887, this big white building with a vast porch has 390 guest rooms, and charges non-guests admission to experience its preserved 19th-century grandeur. The hotel is offering a Halloween weekend package starting at $849. The price includes a two-night stay, daily breakfast and a five-course dinner, pumpkin carving, entry to the Halloween Ball and Costume Party, and much more. Head here to reserve a spot.

Terranea Resort, Los Angeles

One of just a few true mega-resorts in Southern California, the 100-acre, 582-room Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes offers a range of features that’s unrivaled among Los-Angeles-area properties, including a top-tier spa, nine holes of golf, six restaurants, four pools, and gorgeous, manicured grounds. Throughout October, the resort will have Halloween-themed activities for the younger guests. At “Dr. Frankenstein’s Freaky Food Lab” they’ll concoct potions and create tricks and treats. A “Crafting Fun with Jack-O-Lantern” event will let kids decorate their own trick-or-treat bags and design mini jack-o-lanterns. Part of Tide Pool Kids Club, both are open to kids ages three to 12 and cost $20.

W Boston

With large, stylish rooms, a happening bar, and a Bliss spa, the sleek, 235-room W Boston offers a striking, modern alternative to Boston’s historic hotels and traditional chains. The sleek hotel, like many of the W properties across the country, will be hosting a Halloween weekend bash. On October 30, there will be a masquerade party with DJs to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve. Tickets are $25 and costumes are required. The party starts at 9 p.m. and will last until 2 a.m.

Hotel del Coronado, San Diego

The iconic, family-friendly Hotel del Coronado is one of the largest and best-known resorts in Southern California, with 679 modern rooms right on the beach and an acclaimed fine-dining restaurant and wine bar. The hotel will be hosting its 6th annual adults-only “Hallo-wine and Spirits” Party on October 30. The affair begins with a dinner and wine reception, followed by a dance and costume party in the Crown Room. $150 tickets can be purchased here. Kids can have their own fun for $50, which includes dinner and trick-or-treating.

The Curtis Denver – A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

The 336-room Curtis DoubleTree by Hilton may be a mid-range hotel, but it’s fun and kid-friendly, with themed floors — including the TV Mania floor and the Floor of Champions — and a great downtown location. This year Coloween 2015 will be happening from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Halloween. The two-floor costume party will have several DJs and live music, an open bar, themed rooms, and a $1000 prize for the best costume. Tickets are $79, not including the service fee.

SLS Las Vegas

The upscale, 1,613-room SLS Las Vegas is in the building that once housed the iconic Sahara Resort & Casino. Designed by acclaimed French designer Philippe Starck, in collaboration with Gensler Architects, the property mixes elements of the property’s past with strikingly modern decor. The main Halloween event at the hotel will be at LiFE Nightclub; Lil Wayne will be hosting the “Halloweezy” event and there will be a costume contest with $50,000 in cash and prizes. Tickets start at $33 for women and $44 for men (after all, it is Vegas).

Hotel ZaZa, Dallas

A glamorous, ultra-hip hangout, the 153-room Hotel ZaZa is a cool alternative to the luxurious but sometimes stuffy hotels in Uptown Dallas. Guests and locals mingle at the gourmet restaurant, Dragonfly, and at Poolside, the site of outdoor cocktail parties year-round. The hotel will be throwing its Halloween Freak Show on the 31st from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The night will feature DJs, drink specials, and small bites. Tickets go on sale October 15 and cost $50.

The Empire Hotel, New York City

For the price, you’ll be hard-pressed to find this level of on-site amenities at any other New York hotel. The Empire’s rooftop bar and pool, both with excellent views of the Upper West Side, make this 422-room hotel one of the city’s best values, despite the small rooms. The property will be hosting a Halloween Bash on October 31 on the rooftop with a live DJ and open vodka bar from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets start at $20.

The Westin St Francis on Union Square, San Francisco

The St. Francis combines the historydecor, and traditions of a turn-of-the-20th-century grand dame with the amenities, modernity, and corporate-dominated clientele of a large chain property. On Halloween night, it will be having an International Ball party spread across four rooms. Performers will entertain with various genres, such as hip-hop, Latin, Persian, and house music. There will also be samba dancers, costume contests, and drummers. Tickets for the 21-and-over event start at $25 and increase as it gets closer to Halloween.
