9 Fun Hotel Rooms Designed Just for Kids

Taking a family vacation with the little ones? Aside from the typical requesting of cots or a room with two double beds, families who really want to make the hotel a special experience for their children or teens can book a Kids' Suite at hotels around the world. These accommodations typically adjoin to the main bedroom, and include two single beds, fun decorations, toys, and TVs with DVD and video game capabilities. Whether your kids love dinosaurs, minions, or space, here are 9 cheerful hotel rooms specifically designed for the younger guests.

1. Minions Kids Suite at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando

Modeled after the real Portofino Bay on the Italian Riviera, the 750-room Loews hotel has nightly singers in the piazza, great Italian restaurants, and a waterslide that resembles a Roman aqueduct. It’s the most expensive of Universal’s three resorts, but that’s because of its bigger, more beautiful rooms, gorgeous spa, and three pools, including two quieter ones for couples. Despite this, the resort still has many family-friendly features like the Kids’ Suites, which include a standard room and an adjoining themed kids’ room. For instance, the Minions Kids Suite has minions from the “Despicable Me” movie on just about every surface.

2. Discovery Suite at the Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade

The 19-story Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade is an upper-middle-range option located 10 miles from downtown. Though the location isn’t central, this 326-room property has both an outdoor and indoor pool, modern fitness center, and is a short drive to Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Sea World. There are two Kids’ Suites at the hotel — the Discovery Suite and the Aquatic Suite. The former has two twin beds, a basketball hoop and accompanying kid-size Spurs jerseys, bean bag chairs, fun hats for dressing up, books, and board/video games. Even better, there are two TVs, so there will be no fighting between kids on what to watch or play.

3. Kids Suite at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando

Another Loews in Orlando, the 1,000-room Royal Pacific has solid service, great dining, and modern, very comfortable rooms. For the dinosaur-loving kids (or Ross Gellar), there’s a Jurassic Park Kids’ Suite available; it has a standard room for adults and an adjoining themed room that doesn’t open to the main hallway. The wall behind the two twin beds has a photo mural, and there’s some framed photos from the movie’s production. There’s also a desk and flat-screen TV.

4. Kids Suite at the Holiday Inn Melaka

With spacious rooms and plenty of amenities, the Holiday Inn Melaka offers a lot of bang for the buck. The property has two restaurants and a bar, an outdoor infinity pool, a fitness center with modern equipment, and a spa. The 275 contemporary rooms include free Wi-Fi and sea views in some, and guests can also opt for Kids’ Suites with bunk beds. Separated from the main room by a curtain, the kids’ room has small bunk beds for young children, cartoon wallpaper, and kid-friendly toiletries.

5. Kids' Suite at the Holiday Inn Bangkok

Holiday Inn Bangkok is an upper-middle-range property well-located for those looking for shopping and nightlife in Bangkok. The hotel sits on the same property as the more upscale InterContinental, and guests can eat at either of the hotels and access both buildings’ facilities — such as the spa and its rooftop pool. With 379 modern rooms and a pool, this hotel is a good choice for all travelers, but families will especially appreciate the Kids’ Suite rooms, which have bunk beds, soft toys, kid-size robes, and cartoon bedding.

6. Kids Suite at the Hard Rock Hotel Bali

The 418-room Hard Rock Hotel Bali — Asia’s first Hard Rock outpost — is an upscale, family-friendly resort in the middle of bustling Kuta, just across the street from Kuta Beach. The are multiple pools, including a kids’ pool, and several on-site restaurants and bars plus a spa with treatments for adults and kids. Large, contemporary rooms have iPod docks and Nespresso coffeemakers, but families might particularly enjoy the Kids’ Suites with bunk beds, toys, and game consoles. Luxury Kids’ Suites have larger and upgraded living and dining areas, in addition to the other Kids’ Suite perks.

7. Kids Suite at the Holiday Inn Express St. Joseph, Michigan

The 82-room Holiday Inn Express St. Joseph is a lower-middle-range property across from Lake Michigan — although a steep drop prevents direct access. The hotel is geared toward business travelers and families, offering three meeting rooms, an indoor pool and hot tub, and free breakfast. Rooms are contemporary and have flat-screen TVs along with mini-fridges and microwaves; some have whirlpool tubs and lake views from balconies. Families with preteens or teenagers should check out the Kids’ Suites, which have bunk beds, leather floor loungers, and video game consoles.

8. Family Suite at the ASUR Hotel Ocean Islantilla, Spain

The mid-range, 478-room seaside Asur Hotel Ocean Islantilla is in the heart of the Costa de la Luz. The hotel is part of a small Spanish chain, but the common areas don’t feel generic. The hotel’s centerpiece is the gorgeous pool area, surrounded by loungers, palm trees, and tropical plants. Rooms are comfortable, but furnishings are lackluster and pretty much the same across the board. One exception are the Family Suites, which also have a kids’ room with two twin beds, and colorful themes of either space, circus, jungle, or sea.

9. Kids Suite at the Holiday Inn Resort Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Opened in 2014, this mid-range Holiday Inn outpost has a fresh, tropical design; indoor and outdoor pools; good food and drink; and 152 bright, comfy guest rooms, many with balconies and gorgeous Gulf views. Set on a spectacular white sand beach between Destin and Fort Walton Beach, the resort is a great choice for families and has lots of kid-friendly amenities. One being the Kids’ Suites, which feature alcoves containing bunkbeds, bean bag chairs, TVs, and Xboxes.
