NYC Hotel Rooms That Sleep Six or More

See recent posts by Christina Vercelletto

Manhattan is known for many wonderful things, but huge hotel rooms is not one of them. If you’re traveling with a big brood, you may have resigned yourself to the idea of having to cough up significant cash for multiple rooms, maybe floors apart. And what fun is that? We’re here to tell you it doesn’t have to be that way. Believe it or not, you can find cushy accommodations in the best neighborhoods of the Big Apple that sleep a half dozen, or even more, people. And bonus, rooms that allow for big groups usually help to save you some dollars, too. Here are eight of our favorite properties with room types for parties of six.

The Pearl Hotel

This elegant option has several nice free perks including Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, and wine tastings. Its 94 rooms in the heart of Times Square have a tranquil, quiet vibe — despite the location.

Deluxe Queen Suite: In this room for six, you get two Queen beds and a separate sitting area with a full-size sofa bed. Arguably this room type’s best feature is the outdoor balcony — or maybe the bathroom, which could double as a spa, what with a separate granite tub and shower, Dornbracht fixtures, L’Occitane bath amenities, and waffle-knit bathrobes and slippers.

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel New York City – Times Square

This is easily one of the best hotels for families in New York City, thanks to the big two-room suites and location right on the sightseeing hub of Times Square. It’s a big corporate hotel, with a cool backlit lobby bar and modern 24-hour fitness center.

Two Double Beds Premium Suite: Every room at the hotel is a two-room suite with a sofa bed in the living room, but this category has two double beds in the bedroom and can sleep six. Room decor won’t wow, but the rooms’ spaciousness, convenient amenities (including microwaves and mini-fridges), and in some, Times Square views, will.

TRYP New York City Times Square South

The Tryp is one of the more affordable options within walking distance of Times Square, and it’s trendy to boot. Its rooms have reclaimed wood floors, and touches such as funky wallpaper and phrases about New York on the headboards of the beds. There are multiple themed rooms, including a Fitness Room with exercise bike and Samsung Experience Room with 60-inch flat-screen TV.

The Family Room: Wth fold-out bunkbeds, a double pull-out couch, and either two queen-size or one king-size bed, these rooms are indeed family-sized. The largest version sleeps eight. Thankfully, there are two bathrooms, plus convenient wet bars.

Marmara Manhattan

For tourists who don’t want to feel like, well, tourists, this property in the less-traveled part of the Upper East Side may be a great choice. Its accommodations are all apartment-style units with full kitchens, so it’s easy to feel at home. To that end, you can even bring your pets, any size, without charge.

Two-Bedroom Suite: At 1,150 square feet, this large-party-friendly room is considerably bigger than many New Yorkers’ apartments. With two full baths, it’ll be easier for everyone to get ready in the morning. Just try not to fight over the master bedroom: it’s got a whirlpool and his and hers closets. A washer and dryer is tucked in as well, so no taking dirty laundry back home. (The three-bedroom suite sleeps eight for those with an even larger group.)

The Roosevelt Hotel

Beloved by generations of New Yorkers, this stately corner property is smack in the middle of Midtown, just four blocks from Grand Central Station. First opened during the Golden Age of Jazz, it looks the part, with 1,015 guest rooms restored to capture the original architecture.

The Roosevelt Suite: It hardly gets more spacious than this. You and your plus-five can spread out in one bedroom with a king bed, one bedroom with two full beds, and one bedroom with one full bed. The suite has a living area, kitchenette, HD flat-screen TVs, and a private workspace.

AKA Times Square

Those looking for, above all, sophisticated urban excitement on their vacation may want to make tracks to the bi-level penthouse lounge at AKA Times Square. Designed by Italian architect Piero Lissoni, this rooftop terrace offers killer city views and sleek furnishings. Bryant Park, where you can ice skate in the winter or watch the hottest shows outside in the summer, is less than three blocks away, and the Times Square transportation hub is even closer. From there, you can go anywhere in the city.

Two-Bedroom Suite: Sweet dreams may take on new meaning here, as you recline on AKA’s exclusive REM mattresses, tucked under Egyptian cotton linens. The good life doesn’t stop there: think Sub-Zero refrigerator, Zodiac quartz countertops, a Bosch washer and dryer, and Bulgari toiletries for you and your group to share.

Wyndham New Yorker Hotel

Completed at the very end of the Roaring Twenties, the Wyndham recently went back to its Art Deco roots. It gets high marks from tourists looking for a good value in this expensive city. The location is great for many visitors as well: one mile from both the Empire State Building and the High Line, two blocks from Macy’s, and directly across the street from Penn Station. From the 39th-floor breakfast room, you can see across the river to Brooklyn and a large swath of downtown Manhattan.

Non-Smoking Suite: Two double beds and a living room with a sleeper sofa means space enough for the six of you to crash comfortably at the end of your day’s adventures. If you must check in with the office, the workspace will be a plus. There’s no full kitchen, but it does have a refrigerator to chill your bubbly.

Homewood Suites by Hilton New York Midtown Manhattan Times Square South Ny

It seems like not many people think Homewood Suites when they think Manhattan, but they may want to start. The lobby at this outpost is airy and cozy with fireplaces; it’s the kind of lobby where you won’t feel weird sitting down with your laptop to get a little work done. You’ll find outdoor areas for socializing, and a modern, decent-size gym. And talk about money-saving perks: free coffee and tea 24/7, and free (hot and cold) breakfast every day.

Queen Suite: With two queen beds, and a living room with a sleeper sofa, you’ll have space for the whole family (or whatever collection of five travel companions you’d like). The bathrooms are a little small, but hey…did we mention the free hot breakfast?

Short Stay? Bring a Weekend Bag

Both stylish and affordable, you’ll strut down the city streets with this baby like you’re on the runway at NYFW.
