Set in a calm residential spot, on a no-through road with virtually zero passing traffic, Paradera Park is quite the contrast to Aruba’s built-up and bustling touristy areas -- which is precisely why guests come here and often return. The custard-yellow, two-story building containing most of the rooms has a traditional hotel feel, but past that a more picturesque bungalow style begins to unfold with lofty palm trees shading lush, tropical vegetation. Stepping past the entrance, the common area opens right up in either direction. Up one end, there’s a fabulous aqua pool bordered by bright bougainvillea and palms of all sizes. In the center section, there’s a handful of white-cushioned loungers; and to the right, a quartet of palapas shading cute wooden dining settings, plus a cozy outdoor lounge made for chilling. Past this, a jungle-esque garden scene evolves with colorful hammocks slung between more palms. It all adds up to a private little oasis that’s clearly a labor of love for husband-and-wife-hosts, Deb and Henk. They staff the reception area, where a more modern, boutique-like space doubles as a retail showcase for Deb’s glass jewelry creations, which are all made on-site in her studio -- right behind the office. The couple’s warm welcome and wealth of local insight is all part of the Paradera Park experience. 

Paradera Park Aruba's location can either be its strongest asset or its biggest drawback, depending on your perspective. It's set in the inland residential area of Paradera that can feel like a world away from the constant tourist bustle of other resort-driven areas. In reality, the property isn't all that removed, as Queen Beatrix International Airport is just a 12-minute drive away, and many highlights, like beaches, restaurants, and nightlife, can be reached in a five- or 10-minute drive. But a car is pretty much mandatory. Nearby highlights that sit within in a short drive include Bushiribana Ruins (nine minute), Casibari Rock Formations (five minutes), and Alto Vista Chapel (11 minutes). The Palm Beach strip of restaurants, bars, and nightlife spots is about 11 minutes away by car. Renaissance and Surfside beaches are about 12 minutes’ drive, while popular Eagle Beach is 14 minutes from the property. There is a restaurant within a seven-minute walk, and a supermarket located about a three-minute walk up the road. Free on-site parking is available, and airport transfers can be arranged with reception. 

For a small-scale property, Paradera Park has multiple room categories including Deluxe Studios and Suites in One Bedroom, Royal One-Bedroom, and Two Bedroom options. Layouts are lovely and large, increasing in size as units move up in category. (The Royal Suite unfolds over two levels with a ground floor terrace, and a balcony off the bedroom.) All are spotless condition with neutral-toned textiles and bent-cane furniture that add a tropical island touch -- though it also feels a bit dated. King beds, flat-screen cable TVs, air conditioning, safes, hairdryers, irons, ironing boards, landlines with free local calls, and free Wi-Fi all come standard, plus housekeeping comes daily. All rooms open onto private, furnished outdoor spaces that vary in size depending on the category and location. Rooms have full gas kitchens with large refrigerators, appliances, utensils, and Illy espresso machines along with a couple of starter capsules (with more available from reception for a fee). Bathrooms feel fresh and modern with standing showers, Aruba Aloe toiletries in pump dispensers, and double sink basins in higher categories. Little bouquets of fresh garden flowers here add a tiny luxe touch. 

While it's a petite, intimate property, Paradera Park manages to pack in a fair amount of features that add to its overall charm. The pool is a highlight, though it’s on the small side. A handful of comfortable deck chairs are on offer, and one end of the garden features a cozy corner of palapa seating, where guests can read, dine, or just chill. Gorgeous gardens feature shady hammocks, and a gas barbecue is set up by the pool for guest use. Breakfast and snack packs (featuring wine or beer) can be arranged with reception for a fee, and a library of books, games, and DVDs is available to borrow here, too. The friendly hosts are happy to advise on local restaurants, sights, and island must-sees. Host Deborah happens to double as a jewelry designer, creating hand-blown jewelry and art, which is available for sale alongside iconic local beauty products in the reception area as well. Guests get free use of beach towels, beach chairs, and coolers. Snorkel gear can be rented from reception for a daily fee. A laundry service is available (for a fee). Taxis and car hire can be arranged with reception, and free parking is available out the front. Free Wi-Fi is provided in rooms, and it also works around the pool.
