The Park Regis is an upscale business hotel offering good value in central Dubai. Rooms are large and elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows and solid amenities. There are several bars and restaurants -- including one on the 19th-floor offering panoramic city views -- a great fitness center, and lots of meeting venues. But the highlight here is the rooftop area, complete with a small pool, loungers, and striking views. There is a small wellness area with a whirlpool, a sauna and a steam room -- but the hotel lacks a full spa. Still, only a handful of comparable hotels can offer such competitive rates in central Dubai. 

This 112-room luxury resort is an exceptional value for the Maldives. Room rates are competitive compared to other high-end properties, and few offer the all-inclusive perks of Centara. Alcoholic drinks, a la carte meals, daily 30-minute massages, water sports rentals, supervised kids' activities, Wi-Fi, and excursions are covered in the all-inclusive rates, making this resort stand out from the crowd. The resort’s biggest drawback is its out-of-the-way location, at least 30 minutes from Male Airport by plane. 

The 119-room Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg - Tchaikovskogo is a competitively priced luxury property located in a quiet area within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and attractions like the Summer Garden. The hotel has a fresh, modern style; courtyard restaurant; swanky lobby bar; and wellness center with saunas, a contemporary gym, and small indoor pool. Geared toward both tourists and business guests, features include free bike rentals, three on-site meeting rooms, 24-hour room service, and a breakfast buffet (for a fee). The chic guest rooms have free minibars, spacious bathrooms, flatscreen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. 

Acacia is a luxury hotel offering great value. Rooms are stylish and contemporary, with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, memory foam beds, pillow menus, and large bathrooms with walk-in showers and separate soaking tubs. On-site amenities include several dining options, a rooftop pool, a small spa, and a solid fitness center. Freebies such as Wi-Fi, parking, breakfast, and shuttle service to local destinations are great perks -- but the location in a suburban area outside of central Manila is not ideal for those looking to explore the city's sights.

The 251-room luxury Majestic Grande Hotel in Bangkok’s vibrant Lower Sukhumvit area offers elegant accommodations in an extremely convenient location. While the hotel lives up to its name in some respects -- the outdoor pool is visually striking -- guest rooms showed some wear-and-tear and bathrooms need to be updated. Still, the hotel offers good value rates on its rooms, particularly considering its Lower Sukhumvit neighborhood, which is saturated with tourists and upscale properties, and vital for business travelers. 

The Kanda Residences are a set of exclusive multi-bedroom villas located north of Chaweng Beach near Choeng Mon on Samui's northeast coast. The property is just about 10 minutes from the airport, and is a gorgeous retreat, with the enormous villas coming with their own pools, full kitchens with dishwashers and ovens, and total privacy. Additionally, the resort is home to the renowned RockPool Restaurant, famed for its oyster brunches and the nouvelle cuisine of Executive Chef Christopher Pierre; it has a multilevel deck perched right over the sea, oozing romantic charm. The Kanda Residences also has a small gym, a relaxing spa, and several public swimming pools in addition to the private pools in the villas. The price tag here is high, but the villas really are meant for larger groups, which makes them a good deal considering all you're getting.

The upscale Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok is a serene and stylish stay in a quiet location south of most of the hotels on the Chao Phraya river. Located near the bustling Asiatique Night Bazaar, the hotel has a private shuttle boat to make getting to and from the city center easy -- not that there is any great hurry to leave, as each of the 396 luxury rooms has a kitchenette and private balcony with river views, and there's a riverside infinity pool. Foodies will be happy here, with fine dining in the sky at the Silver Waves Chinese restaurant on the 36th floor. For a waterfront, resort-style hotel, the Chatrium offers good value when compared with other riverside hotels.

Popular among European couples, this adult-only resort is small, romantic, and a great value for the Maldives. Highlights include a beachfront infinity pool, nice on-site reef, excellent food, and plenty of free perks. Komandoo’s biggest drawback is its location (a 45-minute flight from Male Airport), which occasionally translates into long layovers; however, it’s significantly less expensive than competing resorts near Male.

The 63-room Ovolo Hotel - 256 Tung Chau Street, West Kowloon is an upscale chain hotel with large rooms, making it an especially good pick for families or groups. A mix of sleek studios along with two-and three-bedroom suites with small kitchenettes including microwaves and sinks make up the room types. A long list of freebies helps this property stand out, including a 24-hour lounge with free, but limited in selection, breakfast, free coffee, beer, and snacks all day, and a drink-for-free happy hour. Stylish rooms feature, you guessed it, free minibars and a welcome snack bag, plus flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and contemporary bathrooms with walk-in showers. There’s even free self-serve laundry available. The nearest MTR station isn’t too far, about a 10-minute walk, but there’s no shuttle.

The Dorsett Mong Kok is a sleek, modern hotel situated between the Mong Kok and Tai Kok Tsui neighborhoods in western Kowloon. Its 285 rooms each provide the loan of a smartphone with free calls and internet connections, as well as comfy bedding and decent refreshment amenities -- though most rooms are small. While there is a small fitness studio, the hotel lacks pool and spa facilities, though for its very reasonable rates this is easy to forgive. 

This 75-room, upscale beach resort on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka has competitive prices and attractive tropical modern style. All rooms have contemporary furnishings, free Wi-Fi, and work desks; bathrooms come with glass walk-in showers. The vibe is quiet and relaxed (perhaps too relaxed for some), and there are two a la carte restaurants and two bars. The expansive beach remains free of crowds, but most tend to plant themselves at one of two outdoor pools divided by a large lawn space. 

Eastin Tan Hotel Chiang Mai is a sleek and modern four-pearl hotel right next to trendy Nimmanhaemin Road -- a 10-minute ride to the old city. The 128 stylish rooms are bright and get plenty of natural light, though the style is simple. All have furnished balconies and lovely bathrooms with contemporary fixtures. Many have fully equipped kitchens, and apartment-style units with separate bedrooms are available. Features include a covered swimming pool with a whirlpool hot tub, a fitness center with a steam room and a sauna, and an all-day restaurant, T Station, built to resemble a 1920's American railway station. 

One of the oldest hotels on Dubai's busy Sheikh Zayed Road, the Crown Plaza might look a little dated compared to the other upscale, high-rise hotels that surround it, but it makes up for that with 13 restaurants and bars, impressive meeting and events spaces, an outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi, and a welcoming atmosphere. Something of a Dubai institution, the hotel is usually packed with a variety of guests who run the gamut of age and cultural backgrounds. Considering its offerings, the hotel is also one of the more affordable high-end options on the block and is within walking distance of the metro and just a short ride from malls, museums, and the beach.

The trendy and modern Nikki Beach Resort is one of Koh Samui's hottest hotels and party spots. Located right on a private stretch of beach in Lipa Noi, on the island's western shore, the lively luxury resort was completely renovated in early 2014, and has two pools, one of which is open to hotel guests only. While the hotel's DJ-mixed, buffet-fueled Sunday brunches are renowned for their party atmosphere, the resort is typically relaxing, with cooking classes, movie nights, free breakfasts, bicycles and kayaks to borrow, spa treatments, and spacious rooms and villas with private terraces. Note that the restaurant and bar are expensive for the area and quality offered, and the party atmosphere isn't for everyone.

The Forest by Wangz is a distinctive, upscale apartment hotel located in the residential Novena District of Singapore. While the location is a bit away from the city's tourist and business hot spots, it's pleasant, with plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The 38 serviced apartments have excellent contemporary finishes, with good self-catering options such as kitchenettes, full refrigerators, and laundry facilities. In-room home cinema systems increase the appeal of a night in, but a free buffet breakfast (though not daily) and a sunny pool and rooftop terrace lure guests out to the public spaces. 

The upscale, yet affordable, 90-room Centra Taum Seminyak Bali is a hip and family-friendly property with a peaceful location and a sleek pool with kiddy section. This property also offers a spa, poolside dining, and a rooftop terrace for yoga and meditation. The property's array of modern apartment-style units have cozy kitchenettes and balconies; some have private pools and outdoor showers. Although in walking distance to the nightlife, the hotel is slightly on the town’s outskirts.

This 92-room hotel is upscale, but offers budget-friendly rates, and is located near the main intersection in Kuta, close to area attractions and the airport (though a bit far from the beach). The Kana Kuta has a nice outdoor pool, small fitness center, free area shuttle, and free breakfast. Rooms are minimally decorated but spotlessly clean, with high-quality mattresses and linens, and flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers; some rooms have balconies. The kids' center is a draw for families. While the Kana Kuta might be slightly removed from the action, but it's good value for the money. 

Part of an international chain of serviced apartments, Citadines Karasuma-Gojo Kyoto has 124 chic, contemporary studios and apartments with kitchenettes and seating areas. Each unit is equipped with flat-screen TVs, dock stations for music players, DVD players, and free Wi-Fi. Located on a busy Kyoto street, the upper-middle-range property is a three-minute walk to the Gojo subway station. Breakfast, self-service laundry, and on-site parking (all with extra fees) are about all the hotel offers in the way of features.

The Raming Lodge Hotel & Spa is a medium-sized hotel located just outside the east gate of the historical old city of Chiang Mai. Rooms here are spacious and furnished in contemporary Thai style with bright colors and all have flat-screen TVs, writing desks, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Higher category rooms include free airport transfers and free minibar snacks. The hotel features a small swimming pool (that can get crowded), a massage spa, and a happening gourmet hamburger restaurant and bar. For its size and location, it is great value compared to similar properties around it, but the street it sits on is clogged with traffic.

New Miyako Hotel is a large, upper-middle-range property with close to a thousand rooms in a convenient location next to Kyoto station. There’s plenty to do within a short walk, and the hotel has a handful of on-site dining choices, including Japanese and Chinese cuisine and a buffet breakfast. Other on-site conveniences include shops, a beauty salon, and a bar. The interior of the hotel have a distinct corporate chain vibe, but rooms are spacious, with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Train noise can be a problem in some rooms -- and light sleepers might want to choose rooms facing the courtyard, which are quieter.

The Hotel City Star is a pleasant mid-range hotel in Delhi's Paharganj neighborhood, a short walk from the New Delhi Railway Station. The 31 rooms here are crisp and modern, with much sleeker decor than at the many backpacker haunts all around. However, those facing the street can pick up traffic noise and the bathrooms, while pleasantly done up in marble, run small. Hotel features include a small fitness center and a pleasant rooftop restaurant serving Indian and international food, plus 24-hour room service and free airport pick-ups and Wi-Fi.
