Rooms range in size from one-room Bungalows by the beach to modern, spacious four-bedroom Villas, some of which have private infinity pools. This three-and-a-half-pearl hotel has a poolside bar and open-air restaurant serving casual lunches and dinners, while the stunning infinity pool and hot tub overlook Sky Beach. With local entertainers and theme nights -- plus the large stand-alone accommodations -- it's a good place for families, and is usually busy. Those looking for more romantic atmosphere should try The Cove, which is quieter and has more amenities at frequently lower rates.
Scene
A relaxed hotel with a busy pool and lively nightlife
The Sky Beach Club packs plenty of Bahamian island charm into a small package. Those travelers familiar with the laid-back Bahamian way of life will not be surprised by the lack of lobby or front desk. Instead, guests can expect to arrive at the main hub of Sky Beach -- the infinity pool -- and ‘check-in’ from there. All common areas have a similar relaxed vibe, with plenty of space on a few wicker lounge chairs and couches that feature red-and-white striped cushions. As rooms are stand-alone Bungalows and Villas with independent travelers in mind, most of the socializing happens at Pascal’s Restaurant, which has an island vibe created by floral decor that's accented with greens and blues. Open windows look out over spectacular views of the Atlantic. With Sammy’s Poolside Bar and Pascal's serving a casual lunch and dinner to guests of the hotel as well as the public, the Sky Beach Club is usually busy during the day with families and guests. The open-air Pascal’s and Sammy’s Poolside Bar are well-known social scenes for Bahamians who come for the local entertainers playing music, theme nights, and bonfires, keeping the hotel lively from day to night. The hotel is spread out enough that those guests staying in the Villas will not be disturbed by the hustle and bustle of the pool and restaurant, but those staying in the Bungalows may notice the noise.
Location
On Sky Beach, a 15-minute drive to Governor's Harbor Airport
The Sky Beach Club has an enviable location off Queens Highway in Central Eleuthera. Set back off the main road down a gravel drive, the hotel has lovely views of Sky Beach and the Atlantic Ocean, and the pink sand of the beach is a just a two-minute walk down a hill from the hotel. Governor’s Harbor, the capital of Eleuthera, is a 10-minute drive from Sky Beach Club, and has a grocery store, shops, a few restaurants, and an ATM. Tippy’s Restaurant and Bar, another local hotspot, is a seven-minute drive away. Sky Beach Club does not provide airport shuttle service, however Governor’s Harbor Airport is a 10-minute taxi ride from Sky Beach Club. North Eleuthera Airport is a one-hour drive away and Rock Sound Airport is a 45-minute drive from Sky Beach Club. Guests should note that there is no public transportation on Eleuthera and walking is not recommended, so the only way to get around the island is by taxi or renting a car.
Rooms
Stylish Bungalows and Villas, with spacious bathrooms and plenty of outdoor space
Picking a room at Sky Beach Club not only determines the size of the unit and proximity to the beach, but also whether or not you’ll be surrounded by families or secluded. The three stylish Bungalows are situated adjacent to the infinity pool and restaurant, each featuring outdoor seating with dark wicker furniture, accented with red-and-white striped cushions. Because of the location of these units, there will be some noise from the restaurant and pool area. Bungalows have an open floor plan and high wooden ceilings, and decor includes dark wood platform king-size beds, light stone tile flooring, and dark furniture accented with beige cushions. There are a few pops of color in details like throw pillows as well as in the abstract wall art. Nice additions include microwaves, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, toasters, dining set ups, and powerful air-conditioning. The spacious bathroom is one of the highlights, with a glass shower, an abundance of counter space, separate bathtub, and separate toilet. There are no doors to the bathrooms, but there is a window connecting the bedroom to the bathroom which can be left open or shut depending on the guests.
Villas are perched on a hill farther away from the hotel's main hub, and offer guests more space and some have private infinity pools. All of the Villas are modern and stylish. They include four bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a laundry room. The four bedrooms all have platform king or queen-size beds, no TV, and wooden ceilings. Outfitted with stainless steel appliances, the kitchens have dark wood cabinets and white dinnerware. There are plenty of places for lounging, with a spacious sunken living room bedecked in white cushioned couches and colorful throw pillows in hues like red, orange, green, and blue. They also have a separate dining area with an iPod dock. All of the bathrooms are spacious and well-appointed, but the master bath is worth noting. There is a double rainfall showerhead in a glass shower, a separate bathtub, and two large vanities, all with a stunning view of the ocean. Those with private infinity pools also have spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean from the pool, with a handful of wicker lounge chairs on the large patio for sunbathing.
It's worth noting that all Bungalows and Villas are only given daily housekeeping services at an additional fee. Wi-Fi is free in all units, as is coffee for the coffeemakers.
Features
Open-air restaurant and poolside bar plus infinity pool overlooking pink sand beach
Sky Beach Club offers a spacious restaurant and poolside bar, a large infinity pool, and plenty of beachfront space that all serve to round out a solid list of features for a three-and-a-half-pearl hotel. Additional amenities include plenty of free parking and free Wi-Fi.
Pascal’s restaurant and Sammy’s Poolside Bar is a popular destination for locals and tourists that offers casual lunch and dinner grill fare. Sandwiches, quesadillas, burgers, salads are on offer, but conch fritters, catch of the day, and cracked conch add traditional Bahamian flavors to the menu as well. The restaurant has a bit more color than the rest of the hotel, with shades of greens and blues decorating the walls, and floral cushions on the wicker chairs. The bar serves specialty drinks -- frozen margaritas, Bahama Mamas, and Goombay Smash -- as well as a full selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks. With theme nights, a barbecue pit, and local entertainers, the restaurant and bar provide a lively social scene.
Adjacent to the bar is a large infinity pool and hot tub. The pool area is open to the public and has a tendency to be busy with families from the hotel and the surrounding area. A handful of wicker lounge chairs are available as well as a cabana for relaxing around the pool. There is a hot tub next to the pool, but it has a tendency to be overrun with kids as well. Directly down the hill from the hotel is the pink sand beach of Sky Beach. There is plenty of space for the guests to spread out and sunbathe, with a few thatched umbrellas and blue lounge chairs provided.
