Bottom Line

The 101-room, 100 Sunset 2 Hotel is an upper-middle-range property in a central location with an airy feel and trendy decor. Guest rooms are air-conditioned and offer mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs, and some have balconies with lovely pool views. Flowers and plants envelop the outdoor pool, and Sata Restaurant offers a free buffet breakfast. However, some rooms present minor maintenance issues, and the pool could use a good cleaning. This is an economy version of the boutique 100 Sunset Hotel down the street and, despite its lovely grounds, sometimes falls short of its potential.

Scene

A contemporary and open hotel filled with trendy decor and bright colors

Housed in a four-story building with a cream-colored facade and decorative railings, the 100 Sunset 2 Hotel appears fairly nondescript from the outside -- save for its enormous, asymmetrical orange and wood sign. Inside, the modern, open lobby has a welcoming atmosphere and youthful, somewhat trendy decor: neon green and orange armchairs, slick black floors, orange inlaid ceiling panels, and abstract art combine with clean white walls and mirrored elevators. There are large windows near the entrance, yet the room feels somewhat dark. There are free newspapers and a concierge stand, as well. Plush rounded chairs in bright green and orange, as well as comfy bench seating, and white brick walls decorate the Sata Restaurant, but despite the many windows, the dark flooring makes the space feel somewhat dim. An outdoor seating area has excellent pool views, as well as a mixture of tan wicker seating and metal high chairs. Colorful flowers, hanging vines, and tropical trees surround the hotel and are well-maintained. Guests tend to be tourists, typically couples and families.

Location

Central location with shops and restaurants in walking distance

The 100 Sunset 2 Hotel is centrally located, with several restaurants, cafes, and shops within a few to 10 minutes' walk, including a grocery store and the longstanding Bali Bakery. Other attractions require a short drive. The Bali Bomb Memorial, Kuta Food Court, and Papaya Fresh Gallery, for example, are within 10 to 15 minutes' drive. Kuta Square and Kuta Beach are also within 15 minutes' drive, as are Legian and Seminyak Beaches. The Ngurah Rai International Airport is also around 15 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Clean and colorful with flat-screen TVs and rainfall showerheads; some with pool-view balconies

Rooms are decorated in a modern style with gray tile floors, dark wood furniture, red bed runners and lamps, and colorful abstract artwork on the walls. Large windows or glass balcony doors allow in a good amount of natural light; most rooms have balconies with gray wicker seating, and some face the pool. Each room is air-conditioned and has a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee facilities, mini-fridge, safe, and slippers. Bathrooms are modern and fresh, with slick black countertops and light beige tiling; most have stall showers with rainfall showerheads, though some have shower/tub combos. Wall-mounted toiletries are provided. Guests note maintenance issues in some rooms, including mini-fridges that aren't cold enough, and faulty showerheads that spray out into the bathroom. Also, many street-facing rooms get traffic noise.

Features

Lovely outdoor pool and poolside bar plus on-site restaurant and fitness center

The beautiful outdoor pool is surrounded by pink flowers and vibrantly green plants and vines, along with tan lounge chairs on a dark wood deck -- guests have noted that the pool could use better cleaning sometimes. The poolside bar offers drinks and is housed in a small, grass-roof bamboo hut. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at Sata restaurant. The free buffet breakfast includes pastries, donuts, cereal, and espresso, and receives mixed reviews. Massages are available at the on-site spa, and there is a steam room, as well. Cardio machines and free weights are provided at the small gym. Room service is available around the clock. Concierge, babysitting, and laundry services are available. There is a free scheduled beach/town shuttle, and an airport shuttle for a fee.
