Bottom Line

The 87-room Adi Dharma Hotel is a mid-range hotel located in a busy area just a five-minute walk to Kuta Beach. Traditional Balinese rooms have contemporary bathrooms and all have furnished balconies, but some look a little worn, with scratches on the furniture. Top features include outdoor pools, a garden, and a full-service spa. A free beach shuttle and 24-hour restaurant and bar are offered, but no fitness center. Guests desiring a more luxurious stay should consider the beachfront Patra Jasa Bali Resort & Villas, with its modern design and outdoor pools with ocean views.

Scene

A homey, authentic Balinese hotel with a magnificent garden

As one of the older hotels in Kuta, the homey Adi Dharma Hotel celebrates its heritage with authentic Balinese architecture, including old-fashioned carvings and red tile roofs. A traditional Balinese style flows through the cozy, open-air lobby, which has a gray stone front desk set against antique wood furniture. Gold trim around the ceiling and pillars of the restaurant adds to the vintage feel, as does the thatched roof, and there is a huge garden with gorgeous native plants and rock fountains flowing into koi ponds. It's a tranquil spot in the middle of wild Kuta, and includes features like a meditation hall and spa. Vacationing families and older couples frequent this hotel.

Location

In a quiet area, away from the traffic, in Kuta’s busy city center

The Adi Dharma Hotel is in the heart of Kuta on a small alley secluded from the busy surrounding area that’s full of traffic. Kuta Beach and Jalan Legian as well as plenty of restaurants are within a five-minute walk while the Beachwalk shopping center takes 15 minutes to reach on foot. Kuta Square and the Kuta Art Market are within a 20-minute walk (five-minutes by car), while Legian Beach, Discovery Shopping Mall, and Waterbom Park are a 10-minute drive. Ngurah Rai International Airport is a 20-minute drive away from the hotel. Transportation in the area can be difficult at certain times of the day due to the excessive traffic.

Rooms

Authentic Balinese style with modern bathrooms and furnished balconies

Rooms at the Adi Dharma are spacious and range from Superior Rooms to big Family Rooms. All feature traditional Balinese design with dark-wood furniture and pops of green in bed runners and textiles. Wall art includes black-and-white photography, classic Balinese miniatures, and Japanese-influenced line drawings. Minibars, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and coffeemakers come standard, and rooms are stocked with free bottled water. All rooms have furnished balconies, and some have wonderful garden views and large living rooms. However, rooms show signs of wear and tear and there are scratch marks and scuffs on some of the furniture. Black countertops look sharp against the floor-to-ceiling tan tile in the stylish bathrooms, which have tiled shower/tub combos or walk-in showers. Some noise from outside the hotel will be heard, potentially including a neighboring rooster.

Features

Outdoor pools and swim-up bar plus a spa and a 24-hour restaurant and bar

Blue tile covers the hotel's free-form outdoor pool, edged with statue fountains, and the Adi Tirta swim-up bar serves snacks and drinks. An attached kids pool has a waterslide and the whole area is flanked with a dark pebble patio with a few blue lounge chairs.

Western and Indonesian dishes plus beer and tropical cocktails are offered at the 24-hour Adi Cempaka Restaurant & Bar, and breakfast at the restaurant is included in some room rates. Aromatherapy treatments, massages, and beauty services are available at the Adi Sauca Spa, and the hotel offers yoga classes and live entertainment on certain days. Both the beach shuttle and Wi-Fi are free, but the business center costs extra to use and there is no fitness center. While there is on-site parking, the number of spaces is limited.
