Scene

Upscale resort with gorgeous carved-stone statuary and lush greenery

Popular with wedding groups, as well as couples and families, Alindra Villa makes a good first impression with a gorgeous carved-stone doorway flanked by Balinese statuary that serves as its entrance. Guests check in at a small lobby with stone floors and wooden furniture before passing through the property's gorgeous, lush grounds filled with stone bridges, stepping stones, and a variety of tropical flora.

The property is split into three distinct areas: the Ethnic Area (just behind the lobby) where the spa and pool are located; the Terracotta Compound behind the spa, which houses the restaurant and the Terracotta units; and a third area near the main parking lot, where the hotel's three Pool Villas are located. The Ethnic Compound and its surrounding area are particularly striking -- the unit has a rustic vibe with a medium-size pool covered in natural stone that blends into the garden that surrounds it. All the buildings in this area are wooden and feel traditionally Indonesian.

Location

In Jimbaran, a 20-minute drive to the airport and a 10-minute drive to Geger Beach

Alindra Villa is located in Jimbaran in southern Bali, a fishing-village-turned-tourist-hub. It has white-sand beaches and good water for swimming, but it's not much of a party scene. The property is located on a small, run-down road off the main highway, about a 10-minute drive to Jimbaran Beach or Geger Beach in Nusa Dua. The Alindra offers free shuttle service twice a day to the beach and once a day to Kuta. The hotel is a 20-minute drive south to Ngurah Rai International Airport, and it takes about the same amount of time to get to the center of Kuta. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is an 18-minute drive south of the hotel, while reaching the Uluwatu Temple takes closer to half an hour. Bali's capital of arts and culture, Ubud, is about 90 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Traditional Balinese units and grandiose villas with private pools

Alindra's units offer a variety of room types in the three sections of the property, many of which were custom-designed by the property's architect owner. All rooms have tea- and coffee-making facilities, refrigerators, and hairdryers, but features and decor vary a little from unit to unit.

The Ethnic Compound has a variety of rooms. Each has its own look and feel, though all feature lots of wood and Balinese artistic touches in the interiors. Ethnic III is the smallest, designed in a hut style with two bedrooms, plus a living area with a daybed. Ethnic I mixes Javanese architecture with Balinese beams, while Ethnic IV is a 100-plus-year-old community hall from Nusa Dua that was recreated as lodging. The two-story Ethnic II is the largest of the lot, with a kitchen, a living area, and two bedrooms on the upper floor. Bathrooms in Ethnic I and II feel cramped compared with some of the other units on the property.

The Terracotta Compound has family units, each of which sleeps up to six on single beds. The Terracotta Suite is the same size, but it has a king-size bed and a lounge area with an entertainment system. Across from the compound, the Terracotta Prime Suite is a stand-alone structure with multiple rooms and garden views.

The hotel also has a few Pool Villas featuring modern decor, private pools, and gardens. The smallest is a two-bedroom Junior Pool Villa with an open kitchen. The Royal Pool Villa is a bit larger and also has its own outdoor whirlpool tub next to the pool. The Grand Pool Villa has huge bedrooms, a large pool, a hot tub, and enough room to entertain large groups, making it a popular option for destination weddings.

Features

Restaurant with free basic breakfast, spa with a variety of treatments, and a beautiful outdoor pool

Situated among trees, shrubs, and dark-stone statuary, the pool is among the prettiest features at the Alindra Villa; it has multi-shaded turquoise-colored tiles and a few lounge chairs under umbrellas. The adjacent spa is semi-open, with thatched roofs and stone floors; a variety of services are available, including traditional Balinese and international massages, and there are two slate hot tubs, where guests can soak after their treatments.

Alindra's Pavilion serves as a relaxation space, with a small selection of books on Balinese culture and architecture. The open-air Joglo serves as the hotel's conference room, complete with a long boardroom table, basic audiovisual equipment (a white screen and a projector), and fans hanging from traditional vaulted ceilings.

The casual Terra Cotta Restaurant serves both Indonesian and Western fare, including a free breakfast. It has a long lawn that can be used for events. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and there's plenty of on-site parking.
