Amadea Resort & Villas

Amadea Resort & Villas is centrally located in Seminyak, but has a peaceful vibe thanks to its split design. The hotel's stylish wood and concrete restaurant faces the action on Eat Street, while the lobby, rooms, and pools are located down a private road. The downside to this layout? It's a two- to five-minute walk from the street to the main building. However, the hotel's golf cart ferries guests to-and-fro, which is especially helpful on humid days. Most of the hotel is open-air, and decor feels modern and minimalist. In the lobby, glossy white tile floors and white walls are accented with comfy lime-green and grey sofas, plus natural touches like woven-mat ceilings and carved-wood furniture. A metal chandelier hanging from the pitched ceiling by the front desk is especially eye-catching. Traditional Balinese artwork decorates the wall behind reception, where staff is dressed in sharp Balinese garb. There are no elevators to the second and third floors -- a fact worth keeping in mind for any mobility challenged guests. This hotel's location in the heart of Seminyak attracts mostly couples, along with lesser numbers of traveling friends and families. Guests tend to gather around the two outdoor pools, where splashing kids can sometimes be noisy. Still, the overall vibe is quiet when compared to other nearby properties. 

Located right on Jalan Laksmana, or Eat Street, the hotel allows for easy access to tons of restaurants, boutiques, galleries, markets, and bars. This is a suitable location for guests who want to be near the nightlife scene, but it’s not a very peaceful location (although the hotel doesn’t have external noise problems). Seminyak Square, with more shops and dining options, is within five minutes on foot. It’s about 10 to 15 minutes on foot to Seminyak Beach and the popular Ku De Ta restaurant. Another hot spot, Potato Head Beach Club, is a six-minute drive (or 20 minutes on foot). Surfers might want to check out Legian Beach, a 15-minute drive away. The Bali Zoo and the Bali Safari & Marine Park are 45 to 50 minutes away by car, with trips arranged through the hotel concierge. The drive to the Ngurah Rai International Airport takes around 20 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic. 

Rooms are bright and airy, with brown, slate-gray, and white decor and modern furniture. Balinese artwork adds panache to an otherwise flat color scheme. There's a lot of natural light thanks to large windows and all rooms have furnished patios or balconies with views of the pools or gardens. While some hotels in this bustling location have noise problems, rooms here are generally quiet. However, many rooms surround a pool, and some guests note that those on the ground floor can pick up pool noise -- though some open directly onto the pool area, which may be a bonus for some. 

All rooms are spacious here, with entry-level units ranging in size from 334-square-foot Superior to 409-square-foot Deluxe options (31 to 38 square meters). Junior Suites measure 517 square feet (48 square meters), and Apartment Suites are a whopping 927 square feet (86 square meters). Pool Villas range from 2,153 square feet to 4,306 square feet for one- and two-bedrooms units, respectively (200 to 400 square meters). 

Standard features include flat-screen TVs (32- or 42-inch), air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and DVD players. Suites and Villas add iPod docks and villas add Bose sound docks. Apartment Suites and villas have kitchenettes. The romantic Rooftop Suites are possibly the most desirable option here, with pitched thatched roofs, one or two bedrooms, and rooftop gardens with lounge chairs and canopy sun beds. Dining and living areas plus sliding glass doors that open directly to private pools are included in villas as well. Wi-Fi is free and safes are standard. 

Bathrooms are clean and spacious, but blandly decorated in beige tile. They have with walk-in showers or separate rainfall showers and soaking tubs; villas and suites all have soaking bathtubs and rainfall showers.

There is no shortage of food options on Eat Street, so many guests head there for breakfast. The hotel serves a basic American-style spread every morning that gets lackluster reviews and isn't included in rates. The hotel’s Bistro Batu Kali restaurant serves a la carte Indonesian and Western fare for lunch and dinner, and has a dining patio directly overlooking the main drag. On Sundays, barbecues are held poolside with hotdogs and burgers for an additional fee. The small poolside bar also has popular happy hour specials. 

Two lap pools are in the garden, one of which is more quiet. The other has an attached kiddy pool and is used primarily by families. Ambiente Spa on the rooftop offers massages, facials, and nail treatments -- detox body wraps and treatments using Balinese ingredients are available. Guests won't find a gym here, but there is one nearby (ask the concierge).

The hotel has free Wi-Fi throughout, and there are two 24-hour computers in the lobby. One air-conditioned meeting room fits up to 40 people. Parking is free, though the lot can be cramped and difficult to maneuver.
