The striking Peranakan design is a drawcard of the three-pearl Atanaya Hotel. The style, which is characterized by vivid colors and detailed motifs, combines Indonesian and Chinese elements; it's seen in wooden leaf cutouts with floral fabric throughout the lobby and rooms, as well as the restaurant's red-painted wall displaying plates. The highlight of the property, however, is its rooftop glass-walled infinity pool and surrounding terrace with panoramic views of the area. The mid-range hotel offers a mostly modern stay at budget prices, making it an excellent value for those who don't mind driving to nearby beaches.

While the Atanaya is not within walking distance of the main tourist district, it's located on a main thoroughfare, a 10- to 15-minute drive from numerous tourist attractions, and a 15-minute drive from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. Some of the nearby points of interest include the vibrant areas of Seminyak and Legian (both undera 10-minute drive away), which have tons of shops and restaurants, as well as the trendy Double Six Beach and Kuta’s beachside Discovery Shopping Mall. The hotel offers a free drop-off shuttle service to both Seminyak and Legian. Free parking is available. 

The hotel’s 109 Peranakan-inspired rooms and suites are surprisingly modern for the price. They feature neutral tones in the wood floors, simple wooden furniture, and the tan linens, while pops of color come through in the fabric-covered leaf cutouts, baskets holding toiletries, and occasional chairs or throw pillows. In-room amenities are similarly up-to-date, including flat screen TVs with satellite channels, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes, and free Wi-Fi. 

Accommodations range from 250-square-feet (23-square-meter) Deluxe Rooms to 670-square-feet (62-square-meter) Family Suites. All feature the same amenities, but suites ensure the added comfort of a separate living area. Bathrooms across the board have walk-in glass showers, toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. Some bathrooms can be tight on space, however. As the hotel is located on a busy road, some rooms can experience traffic noise.

Atanaya lacks a gym, but it does have a striking rooftop infinity-edge pool with a glass wall visible from two sides. The poolside terrace is lined with white-wicker loungers, a couple of blue umbrellas, and a bar with wicker tables and chairs. The rooftop provides scenic panoramic views of the city. For those in Bali on business, there are five meeting rooms complete with audiovisual equipment. Wi-Fi is free, albeit a bit spotty, throughout the property. 

Dining-wise, the all-day Kapur Sirih restaurant serves a mix of Chinese and Indonesian fair. Breakfast is included in some rates, offering both Balinese specialties and Western fare. Also on-site, Brewu Coffee and Pastry has a menu of gourmet teas and coffees, as well as pastries.
