Bottom Line

Bounty Hotel is an affordable three-pearl hotel in central Kuta next to the Beachwalk Mall shopping complex, about a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach. In keeping with its club-heavy Kuta environs, the atmosphere here is a non-stop party. Young, mostly Aussie guests congregate at the 24-hour swimming pool that has a swim-up bar, nightly DJ, and weekly party. The hotel also has a second pool with swim-up bar, plus two 24-hour restaurants, a lobby bar, and on-site spa. Unfortunately the party noise often reaches many of the 166 rooms, so the hotel isn't for light sleepers. The simply decorated rooms come with minibars, free Wi-Fi (which often has reliability issues), and flat-screen TVs. Those who want a more relaxed boutique hotel in this area might try the nearby Dekuta Hotel.

Scene

Lively central Kuta hotel with 24-hour party vibe

Bounty Hotel is situated on a side street in a three-floor, traditional Balinese building on grounds with gardens and lush greenery. The interiors have a mostly Balinese look, and the lobby makes for a pleasant welcome, with marble floors, wood furnishings, and Balinese carvings and art. However, the hotel is in an area with bars and clubs, and specifically caters to an 18- to 35-year-old clientele looking to party. Most of the action takes place around the hotel's central pool, situated in a courtyard with trees, shrubs, and Balinese statues spouting water into the pool. The pool is often loud and crowded with (mostly) Aussie revelers, who drink from the swim-up bar and rock out to a DJ in the evening hours. On Friday nights, the pool area hosts a party with traditional Balinese dance and live music. Both restaurants are also open around the clock to suit the nocturnal types who stay here. The noise from the pool often reaches the rooms, so the hotel isn't suitable for light sleepers or families with children.

Location

Central Kuta location next to Beachwalk Mall, a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach

The Bounty is on a small side street in central location in north Kuta next to the Beachwalk Mall and Poppies 2 street, with its souvenir and clothing stands. The area is filled with restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. It's a five-minute stroll to Kuta Beach, which has surfboard rentals, beach cafes, and scenic sunsets. Also five minutes away on foot is area with the Sky Garden Bali entertainment complex and the Ground Zero Monument to the victims of the 2002 Sari Club bombing. The historic Vihara Dharmayana Buddhist temple is a little over a five-minute drive from the hotel, Kuta Art Market is a 10-minute drive or 15-minute walk away, and the 3D Dream Museum Zone of interactive 3D art is a 15-minute drive. Waterbom Bali water park is a little over 10 minutes away by car. Ngurah Rai International Airport, south of Kuta, is a 15-minute drive from the Bounty Hotel.

Rooms

Simple Balinese rooms with flat-screen TVs and spotty Wi-Fi, many have noise issues

Rooms at the Bounty have a simple, mid-range look, with restrained Balinese decor and wood furnishings, paneling, and headboards. It was all modern once, but looks a bit cheap and simple now. White and brown are accented with colors like violet in the curtains, bed throws, and paneling above the bed. All are fairly spacious, with entry-level rooms starting at 258 square feet (24 square meters), and getting larger in higher-category rooms. A few have issues with dirt or stains, and some could use sprucing up to address worn furniture, towels, and bedding.

Noise is a major issue, and rooms near the central pool will encounter loud music and shouting until late at night. Guests hoping to get some sleep should request a room closer to the second, quieter pool. All 166 rooms come with air-conditioning, free bottled water, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi can be slow and there are fees for faster speeds. Occasionally there are issues with non-functioning air-conditioning or bathroom exhaust fans. Some rooms have DVD players and/or electric kettles. Balconies or terraces are standard, and Junior Suites have living areas.

Bathrooms are clean and well lighted, but towels are cheap and bath products are limited. Bathrooms have hairdryers, and some have bathtubs. Rooms are situated in a three-floor building without an elevator. Staff will assist with luggage upon request.

Features

24-hour party pool with swim-up bar plus a second pool and two 24-hour restaurants

The Bounty Hotel's main feature is its central outdoor swimming pool, and it serves as the hotel's entertainment hub for much of the day (and night). The freeform pool is fairly big, but it's meant for splashing around and partying, and not genuine swimming. The pool is open 24 hours a day and features a 24-hour swim-up bar and DJ every evening. On Friday nights, the pool hosts a party with traditional Balinese dance, modern dance, and emcee-led games. The secondary pool also has a swim-up bar, but the atmosphere is a bit more relaxed.

The hotel serves an average-quality breakfast buffet (for a fee), with the typical spread of cooked-to-order eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, mushrooms, Indonesian rice dishes, pancakes, toast, and cereal. The pool-facing 24-hour restaurant serves decent Indonesian and international cuisine, and room service is available around the clock. The 24-hour sidewalk cafe has an Aussie bar atmosphere and serves mostly pub grub alongside televised Australian sports. The lobby bar and lounge has a more Balinese look, and includes a billiards table.

The small on-site spa is quite plain, but if offers a decent range of affordable treatments. The hotel also has ping-pong tables, a meeting room, business center, concierge/tour desk, car and motorcycle rental, pharmacy counter, and free parking. Free Wi-Fi is available but can be spotty.
