Bottom Line

Situated on a busy road just outside the heart of Kuta, Grand Mega Resort & Spa is an upper-middle-range property with 130 rooms spread over five floors. Rooms are air-conditioned and spacious, plus all have mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs. Features include a restaurant and room service, a spa offering a wide variety of treatments, a small fitness center, loaner bicycles, and meeting rooms, plus free and fast Wi-Fi. There's also a lovely pool area with a swim-up bar. However, the hotel is not on the beach and rooms show minor wear and tear; some units also lack balconies and/or get significant street noise. Fortunately, there are plenty of options to choose from in the area; travelers shopping around should consider Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, which is right on the beach.

What are the Design and Scene Like at Grand Mega Resort & Spa?

Leisure hotel with a purple theme set on a busy street

The upper-middle-range Grand Mega Resort & Spa makes a striking impression with its purple-dominant design throughout the property. The entrance has lots of foliage and a large facade covered with mirrored panels, while the lobby is contrastingly simple and sparse, housing a reception desk and a purple banquette-style seating area for guests. On one side sits Cafe Cinta, an inviting space with tall ceilings and a mix of gray and purple interiors paired with lots of wood detailing and crystal-ball decorative features. Just beyond sits the pool, the hotel's centerpiece common area, with a big fountain feature and lots of lounge chairs. Rooms are spread across five stories, accessed via dark hallways that lack air-conditioning and can feel stuffy. The hotel sees a mix of families and couples on vacation.

Where is Grand Mega Resort & Spa Located?

On a busy road across from a shopping mall, a five-minute drive from the heart of Kuta

This hotel is located on the busy Ngurah Rai Bypass, about a five-minute drive east of central Kuta, right next to the landmark Patung Dewa Ruci fountain/statue/roundabout. The area is dominated by mini-marts, banks, office buildings, and other large hotels. A small convenience store is on one side and there's a big shopping center across the street, Mal Bali Galeria, with all sorts of fashion shops and a large supermarket. A small road runs from the back of the hotel property (accessible via the basement parking lot) and it's lined by small grocery stores, warungs (traditional roadside eateries), and cheap places to get laundry done. The Ngurah Rai International Airport is about a 20-minute drive from the hotel, though frequent traffic can significantly increase the time.

What are Rooms Like at Grand Mega Resort & Spa?

Big, air-conditioned rooms with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and kettles

All of the rooms here are air-conditioned and have the same purple-dominant color scheme found elsewhere throughout the property: think dark-purple blackout curtains, upholstered stools, throw pillows, bed runners, suspended wall lanterns, and velvet accent walls. White walls with silver accents and light-wood laminate floors keep spaces feeling light, as do the beer bottle-green glass decorative fixtures behind the beds and multiple mirrors. Units are spacious, functional, and pleasant, with perks that include free and reliable Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, kettles with tea and instant coffee, and flat-screen TVs. Some units have balconies with views out onto the internal pool courtyard, while others have floor-to-ceiling windows that look straight out onto the hallways; those facing the main road in front of the hotel have views of a decorative metal facade that adds privacy but blocks views and sunlight; these rooms also get traffic noise.

Bathrooms are sleek, with huge mirrors, marble floors and walls, deep soaking tubs, and separate walk-in showers. Higher categories have kimono-style dressing gowns. Indonesian puppets displayed in nooks above the bathtubs provide a decorative touch, and small hairdryers and basic toiletries are provided. Inconveniently, stand-alone vessel sinks mean there's zero counter-space for even hand soap. Also on the downside, during our visit there was no hot water in the shower (only in the bathtub), a complaint echoed by other guests.

What Features are Available at Grand Mega Resort & Spa?

Lovely pool, spa, all-day restaurant with room service, fitness center, free loaner bicycles, and fast Wi-Fi

Grand Mega Resort & Spa has a solid list of features for vacationers looking to spend time at the property. At the heart of the hotel is an outdoor pool with a fountain feature and swim-up bar. It's big enough to accommodate lap swimmers and there are ample lounge chairs. The main restaurant, Cafe Cinta, serves Western and Indonesian dishes all day, including a free, but not particularly standout, buffet breakfast with hot and cold items.

Other wellness facilities include a small fitness center with cardio and weight-training equipment, and the Kahyangan Spa, which offers massages, facials, and nail service. Bikes are free to borrow, but guests aren't allowed to use them after dark.

Business features include free and reliable hotel-wide Wi-Fi and four meeting rooms for rent. There's also an underground parking lot accessible from behind the hotel, though it only has a few spaces; it's a good idea to let the property know ahead of time if you plan to bring a car, but most guests don't drive here so there's usually room.
