Bottom Line

Just off a busy Jimbaran street but set far enough away to be private, this intimate property has 13 spacious villas. Many units come with outdoor bathtubs, canopy beds, and direct pool access or hot tubs. A private beach club is a five-minute walk, or free shuttle ride, away. There's also a full-service spa on-site with a small gym and room service is available, adding to the romantic vibe of the property. Families should look elsewhere as children under 16 are not allowed.

Scene

Quiet, romantic luxury resort suited to couples

The setting here is very adult; no kids under 16 are allowed which makes for a quiet, couple-friendly retreat. And though it would be an idyllic setting for a wedding, such gatherings are not allowed in order to protect the privacy and tranquility of the resort for other guests. In other words, if you're looking for a place to escape -- or are a movie star trying to avoid the paparazzi -- this could be a good choice.

With an unassuming exterior, the only things visible from the street are the Jamahal sign and the big doors leading to the resort, neither of which are indicative of the beautiful grounds within, full of lily ponds, thick greenery, and Balinese statues. The open-air lobby is small, with cushioned seating areas, large flower-filled vases, and stone floors and walls. The welcome drink and massage upon check-in definitely start things in a relaxing manner for guests.

Location

Located off a busy street in Jimbaran

About a 15-minute drive from the busy Kuta area, this resort is located in Jimbaran, which feels like a typical Balinese village despite its many resorts. Immediately surrounding the hotel are restaurants, shops, and the beach, but since it's a traditional Balinese town visitors may also be able to enjoy watching Hindu ceremonies and the thriving fishing industry in action. Jimbaran Beach is a five-minute walk away.

Rooms

Grand villas with lots of natural light and elegant touches such as canopy beds

Beautifully and individually decorated, the Villas at the Jamahal Private Resort & SPA are filled with gorgeous local artwork and antique wood furnishings. Garden Suite Villas, Pool Suite Villas, and Pool Villas are available, some of which have whirlpool tubs or direct pool access. All have rich hardwood floors and decadent canopy beds and the many floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors allow a lot of natural light to flood the spaces. All of the villas are air-conditioned and come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, robes and slippers, and minibars full of free items, including plenty of bottled water. Many of the villas have outdoor bathrooms with toilets and deep sunken tubs, but despite being open-air, the spaces are private.

Features

Full-service spa, gym, lagoon pool, beach club, and room service

The hotel features a lovely full-service spa and in-room massages and treatments are available. There's also a small, minimally appointed fitness center with a couple pieces of cardio equipment and a few weight-training machines. The lagoon-style free form pool is more suited for cooling off than for swimming laps, as it's on the small side. The hotel also has a private beach club on the shore, complete with cocktail service, a five-minute walk away (a free shuttle is also available). Though there is a small area where food and drinks can be served just off of the lobby, the best option for cuisine at this property is to request room service, which is available 24-hours a day and features local/organic items.
