Bottom Line

The 79-room Kuta Puri Bungalows is an upper-middle-range, traditionally designed hotel in a central but peaceful area with many sights, like Kuta Beach and Beachwalk shopping center, within fast walking distance. Classic Balinese-style rooms offer mini-fridges, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and free bottled water, while some have terraces with seating and marvelous garden views. Beautiful plants and trees encompass two outdoor pools, and there is a poolside bar with drinks, but it closes early. Both the on-site restaurant and free breakfast are mediocre. There is a spa with traditional services and fantastic gardens surround the property and include fountains and koi ponds. For those that need to be on Kuta Beach, try the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel.

Scene

A traditional Balinese hotel with exceptional grounds

A large fountain surrounded by greenery and stone statues adorns the entrance to the friendly and comfortable Kuta Puri Bungalows. The property includes traditional Balinese pagoda-style buildings with pitched tile roofs and bamboo blinds, all linked by stone pathways that wind through the leafy, tropical grounds. White tile floors, high ceilings, and wood tables with gray armchairs decorate the open-air lobby. Gray couches provide seating and there is a flat-screen TV mounted to the wall. Kuta Puri Restaurant has a classic design with red and black plaid tablecloths, tan tile floors, black wicker chairs, and an open-air design. Flat-screen TVs hang on the walls while the bar area has wood chairs and a granite counter where guests can sit and dine. Throughout the property, the grounds are immaculate and filled with gorgeous tropical trees and plants, fountains with traditional statues, koi ponds, and ornate lanterns. Guests are mainly tourist families and couples.

Location

In a quiet, central area with restaurants, attractions, and shops less than a five-minute walk away

The Kuta Puri Bungalows are in a peaceful area in the center of Kuta with Kuta Beach, Beachwalk shopping center, restaurants, and shops less than a five-minute walk away. The Bali Blast Monument and Kuta Square are around a 10-minute walk, while Waterbom Park, Discovery Shopping Mall, and Paradiso Bowling and Billiards Center are within a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Legian Beach and Seminyak Beach are a 15-minute drive away, while Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 25 minutes' drive.

Rooms

Classic Balinese design with bright windows and stylish tan tile bathrooms

A variety of room types are available including Standard Rooms, Family Rooms, Bungalows, and Suites, but all have a simple, traditional design with light tile floors, red bed runners and pillows, and large windows for natural light. Tan walls have a bit of artwork and there are cushioned wood chairs for seating, but the overall look is a bit boring and unfinished. Mid-tone wood furniture houses the minibars and coffeemakers while flat-screen TVs are mounted to the walls. Free bottled water and air-conditioning are also provided. Some rooms have outdoor terraces with seating and amazing garden views, while others have high wood ceilings and open-air bathrooms. Light countertops adorn the contemporary tan tile bathrooms with shower/tub combos, hairdryers (on request in some cases), and toiletries provided.

Features

Two outdoor pools in addition to poolside bar, on-site restaurant/bar, and free breakfast

Two outdoor pools are available and both are surrounded by ample greenery. One is an interesting shape with a shallow area for children, while the other is adults-only and has the poolside bar with cocktails, juice, soda, and beer; however, the bar closes early in the evening. Tan wicker lounge chairs provide seating and sit on the shared brown tile deck. Asian and international dishes, in addition to cocktails and beers are served at Kuta Puri Restaurant. The free breakfast includes hot and cold items such as fruit, coffee, yogurt, cereal, rice, pastries, and bacon. Food quality varies, both at breakfast and at dinner. Authentic Balinese treatments are available at the on-site spa and there is a 24-hour front desk with concierge services. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout and the outdoor parking is free as well. Airport transportation costs extra -- though is free for guests staying at least four nights -- and room service has limited hours.
