Bottom Line

Legian Guest House is an affordably priced, 13-room value hotel located along a quiet lane off of bustling Sunset Road highway. The hotel's name is somewhat misleading, as downtown Legian is a 10-minute drive from the hotel and Legian Beach is around 15 minutes away by car. To help, the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the Legian area. Facilities and rooms are basic and the hotel is essentially a cheap crash pad, though the social vibe adds some charm. Features are limited to a small pool and a small restaurant. Rooms are compact, simple, and clean, and include air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. For a similarly priced hotel with a better downtown location, the Loft Legian Hotel offers modern rooms closer to the beach, though it lacks a pool.

Oyster Hotel Review

Andari Legian

Scene

Intimate value hotel, with a social and laid-back vibe

At its heart, this is a small and simple hotel that -- despite an inconvenient location -- is well-liked by previous guests. In fact, its diminutive size gives it a homey vibe, which is only amplified by the easy-going social atmosphere. Most of that action takes place around the hotel's pool, even though it's a bit small for any real swimming. The pool area features some sparse greenery and is bordered by a natural stone tiled wall with an inset hand carved limestone relief. There's also a small restaurant on-site, but most people are out at the beach and touring the area during their stays here. Keep in mind that you're not within walking distance of the beach and other south Bali hubs of activity. and will have to rely on the hotel's shuttle or taxis to get around.

Location

On a quiet lane near Sunset Road highway, a 15-minute drive from Legian Beach

The hotel's location is out of the way and not very convenient, especially for those without their own transport. Walking into downtown Seminyak or Legian from the hotel takes over 20 minutes and involves crossing Sunset Road highway and poorly maintained sidewalks. By taxi downtown Seminyak and Legian take less than 10-minutes to reach. Convenience stores and ATMs are nearby, but dining options are limited. A Starbucks and McDonald's are less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel along Dewi Sri Street, and there are a few local warungs closer to home. Dream Museum Zone (DMZ) Bali is an engaging family-friendly destination located a 10-minute walk from the hotel. It features large 3D murals that visitors can pose and interact with. Double Six and neighboring Legian Beach, as well as Mal Bali Galleria shopping center are less than a 15-minute drive from the Hotel. Other attractions in the area -- including Waterbom Bali and Kuta Beach -- are around a 20-minute drive away. The airport takes 25 minutes to reach from the hotel, though traffic can be bad in this part of the island so budget extra time to get there.

Rooms

Basic and affordable rooms featuring modern amenities, plus terraces with outdoor seating

Rooms at the Legian Guest House are compact, though not cramped, and all feature terraces with outdoor seating, which makes them feel more spacious. Interiors are modern and clean, with sparsely decorated white walls, plain tile floors, and simple dark wood-veneer furniture. Both room types have similar layouts and features, though Deluxe Rooms are a bit more polished and feature marble tiled floors. Rooms are outfitted with desks and chairs plus large wardrobes with plenty of hanging and shelf space. Amenities include air-conditioning, TVs with cable channels, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, electric kettles, safes, and two bottles of mineral water. We did notice that the TVs in the rooms were clunky and small.

Superior Rooms are fairly compact -- at around 215 square feet (20 square meters). Deluxe Rooms have a bit more space -- at around 323 square feet (30 square meters). Deluxe Rooms also open out directly onto the pool area and feature terraces overlooking the pool. However, guests should note that the pool is a hub of activity during the day and sometimes at night, so Superior Rooms (farther from the pool) tend to be less noisy. Rooms are clean, though do show some wear and tear throughout. Bathrooms in the Deluxe Rooms have plenty of space and feature marble tiling, large vanities, soap dispensers, and a glassed-off shower. Superior Room bathrooms have a similar layout, though are smaller. Both come with bathrobes, toiletries, and towels.

Features

A small pool, reasonably priced Italian-Indonesian restaurant, free shuttle to the beach, and free Wi-Fi

This hotel is tiny and the facilities are limited, but what it does have is adequate for the price. Also, most guests who choose a stay here mainly use the hotel as a cheap base to explore Kuta and Legian, so they're generally out for most of the day. A free shuttle service operates daily to Legian Beach and nearby areas. The property features a small rectangular pool, which is great for cooling off from the hot tropical sun, though is a bit small for laps. Note that there are no lounge chairs. All meals are served in Alfredo Restaurant, which is reasonably priced and highlights both Italian and Indonesian cuisine. The most popular dishes on the menu are the pasta and pizza dishes as well as the nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice). The front desk offers tour arrangement services plus motorbike and car rentals. The lobby area has a laptop with internet for guests to use. Both parking and Wi-Fi are free, and the hotel also provides free longterm surfboard and luggage storage.
