Legong Keraton Beach Hotel is a three-pearl hotel in Canggu on Berawa Beach, one of Bali's best surfing spots. While it's a bit far from the Seminyak action, the setting here is more secluded. The hotel offers its own private stretch of sand, in addition to a fairly large beachfront pool. A spa offers Balinese-style treatments, and a beach-facing restaurant serves Indonesian and continental fare. The 40 rooms have a simple, classic look and come with balconies or terraces, some featuring ocean views. Standard in-room amenities include minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. For a little less money, travelers wanting to be closer to the Seminyak action should check out Ivory Resort, a sharp little boutique hotel with extras like stereos in rooms.
Scene
Simple oceanfront hotel with low-key vibe for those wanting to escape the south Bali hustle
The Legong Keraton Beach is a fairly small hotel housed in a white building on well-landscaped tropical grounds with lovely lawns, trees, and gardens. The feel is open, and its oceanfront location only adds to the bright and breezy effect. In fact, most guests will be found on the beach or at the beachfront freeform pool throughout the day. Guests gather on the deck with sun beds and Balinese gazebo with red-shingled roof. As such, interiors are restrained and not all too exciting. The indoor, open-air lobby has a simple Balinese look, with wood ceiling and colorful hanging lamps. The restaurant is also indoor and open-air, but done entirely in white. Guests dine here and get a view of the beach, and outdoor patio dining is also available. Given its low-key style, a mix of surfers, older couples, and families are drawn to the Legong Keraton's beach, pool, and location away from the Seminyak hubbub.
Location
In Canggu on Berawa Beach, a short walk to beach clubs and cafes
Legong Keraton Beach Hotel is in Canggu, a town that's north of Seminyak, on Berawa Beach, considered one of Bali's best surf beaches. The hotel is in an area of other hotels and resorts, and there are a few cafes, beach clubs, restaurants, and shops are within a short walk. However, the most popular parts of town are a 15-minute drive away, where bespoke shops and cafes like Crate are popping up. The area with La Lucciola beachfront Mediterranean restaurant, Petitenget Beach, and Pura Petitenget temple is also a little over a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Seminyak Square shopping mall is also a little over 15 minutes away by car, and Bintang Supermarket is about a 20-minute drive. Ku De Ta restaurant and the "Eat Street" area of Seminyak restaurants are also 20 minutes away by car. Those looking for other surf opportunities may want to head to Echo Beach, which is also a 20-minute drive away. Ngurah Rai International Airport is a 35-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Spacious, plain rooms with balconies, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs
The rooms and cottages at Legong Keraton Beach have a reasonably modern look with traditional Indonesian touches, though it's all a bit bland. Walls are almost entirely bare, and the color palette is a neutral white, beige, brown, and black. There's a dash of muted color in the upholstery and decorative throws on the all-white bedding. All 40 rooms come with free bottled water, minibars (with room for cold storage), free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Occasionally the Wi-Fi signal is weak or erratic, and electric kettles are sadly missing from most rooms. Some rooms offer electric kettles for instant coffee and tea. Each room has a balcony or terrace, and some have ocean views. There's ample space to spread out in the rooms: all are over 365 square feet (34 square meters) in size. Rooms are clean and well maintained, but some could use a bit of general freshening and furniture is just a bit worn. Bathrooms are clean and spacious, and have good counter space. Some do not have bathtubs, and some have separate tubs and showers. Toiletries are provided.
Features
Private white-sand beach, beachfront freeform pool, spa, and beach-facing restaurant
One of the biggest draws at this hotel is its location on Berawa Beach, considered one of the best surfing beaches in Bali. It has surfboards, sun beds, and umbrellas for guests. Even the pool is built to take advantage of the setting, and sits next to the beach. It's about 25 meters long and has a shallow section for children. The small spa offers a range of traditional Balinese treatments and herbal therapies, but there is no fitness center. The cafe restaurant serves a breakfast buffet (for a fee) with a cooked-to-order egg station, pancakes, Indonesian items, and other hot and cold fare. The lunch and dinner menus feature continental cuisine and Indonesian dishes like mi goreng (fried noodles). The restaurant prices tend to be a bit cheaper than at the neighboring beach club restaurants. Room service is available. Hotel staff can make restaurant reservations, book tours, and offer sightseeing advice, as well as arrange motorcycle, scooter, and bicycle rental. Free parking is on-site and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel as well. A free shuttle runs into Seminyak and to the Bintang Supermarket twice daily.
