This mid-sized, upper-middle-range hotel in Nusa Dua is a well-maintained property with extensive facilities without the luxury resort feel or high prices of other hotels in this posh area. Although it's removed from the beach, guests get free access to the nearby Mercure Beach Club, with lounge chairs, thatched huts, and free towel service. A free shuttle runs from the hotel to the beach. More functional and modern than traditional or romantic, the smallish rooms all come with extras such as free bottled water and mini-fridges. There's also a fitness center and a bi-level pool with cabanas and lounge chairs. Guests can order room service or dine in at the 24-hour Soka Restaurant, but should budget extra for breakfast, as it's not included in room rates.
Scene
A mix of travelers in a more modern, less authentically Indonesian setting
Tourists looking for a more traditional Balinese experience may be disappointed by the Mercure Bali Nusa Dua's conventional chain hotel vibe. The fountains leading up to the hotel are unique and the lobby is minimalistic yet modern with oddly decorated metallic pillars, unusually shaped banquettes, and seemingly random tribal-print throw cushions. Like most of the hotel, it feels more functional than flavorful. The hotel has recently landscaped gardens with lots of grassy lawns along with palm trees and bougainvilleas. Play areas for children make the Mercure a reasonable choice for families, although the overall vibe is that of a business hotel and many of the guests are in town for work rather than relaxation.
Location
Located in Nusa Dua, near shopping and the Convention Center
The hotel is a 15-minute drive from the Ngurah Rai International Airport via the Mandara toll road (longer if taking side roads), and about 10 minutes from the Mercure Beach Club on a private road with two security gates. It's a short walk to the town center of Nusa Dua, which has some shops, local eateries, cafes, and spas, and about 20 minutes on foot from the Bali Collection Shopping Centre. The Bali International Convention Center is a five-minute drive away
Rooms
Small, clean, functional rooms with robes and mini-fridges, but little else
All 198 air-conditioned rooms are on the small side and feature modern palettes accented by Balinese-inspired wall murals and lilac-hued bed throws. Rooms are sleek and modern and offer enough amenities for a comfortable stay, including free bottled water, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, robes, and hairdryers. Rooms are distinguished as having either pool or garden views, neither of which are particularly impressive. Bathrooms have walk-in showers and the hot water is reportedly sporadic. The sinks are located outside of the main bathroom areas, right in the rooms. The showers and toilet stalls in some rooms are separated from the living areas only by frosted glass doors, which could pose privacy issues for some guests,
Features
Gorgeous pool, 24-hour restaurant and room service, business facilities, gym, and bike rentals
The 24-hour Soka Restaurant serves Indonesian and international dishes in a casual, cafeteria-like setting. Room service is available. Poolside drinks are on offer and the Pelung Bar in the lobby is another place to grab a drink if looking for a change from the poolside scene.
The bi-level swimming pool -- flanked with cabanas and lounge chairs -- is one of the best features of the hotel, its two levels connected by a waterfall feature. Though the hotel is not on the beach, guests get free access to the nearby Mercure Beach Club, which comes complete with lounge chairs, thatched huts, and free towel service. An hourly shuttle ferries guests to and from the club.
There are three good-sized meeting rooms and a self-service business center along with free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. There's also a fitness center with a variety of weight-training and cardio equipment, and even some wall-mounted barres. Bike rentals are also available on-site.
