Bottom Line

The upscale 228-room Patra Jasa Bali Resort & Villas is beachfront hotel with exceptional grounds within a five-minute drive of Kuta's attractions and restaurants. Contemporary rooms all have balconies (some with ocean views), air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi, while exceptional Villas have extras including private pool access and 24/7 butler service. The airport is essentially next door, but plane noise isn't a bother here, though there are minor upkeep issues in guest rooms. The three outdoor pools plus several on-site restaurants and bars are a plus for the families and large group tours that pass through, and there is a full-service spa as well. For a resort this size a fitness center would be a welcome addition, and guests should compare rates at the Bali Garden Beach Resort, where that feature is included.

Scene

A large and airy resort surrounded by expansive, lush gardens

The Patra Jasa Bali Resort & Villas is expansive, but still maintains a private, secluded feel with a friendly atmosphere. High ceilings make the contemporary lobby feel open and traditional murals on the walls surround brown wicker chairs and marble tile floors. Wood tones flow throughout the comfortable Lobby Lounge, which features a pool table, piano, and wood bar, while the bright Teratai Coffee Shop has indoor/outdoor dining with wood and wicker furnishings. The open-air Rinascimento Italian Restaurant has an outdoor kitchen with a green-tile pizza oven, while red padded chairs and gray tile floors cover Ten Ku Japanese Restaurant. Heritage Floating Lounge consists of a traditional pavilion surrounded by a wonderful lotus pond filled with koi. Guests -- typically families, couples, and group tours -- are drawn here by marvelous grounds with tons of plants, flowers, and statues, not to mention the resort's beach.

Location

Beachfront location adjacent to the airport

The beachfront Patra Jasa Bali Resort & Villas is a 15-minute walk from restaurants and shops, while the Ngurah Rai International Airport, Waterbom Park, and Discovery Shopping Mall are a five-minute drive away. Though the resort's property is essentially right next to the airport complex, noise from planes is not a major issue here. Kuta Beach and Kuta Square are 15-minutes away by taxi or car. Nusa Dua Beach, Legian Beach, and Seminyak Beach can all be reached within 30 minutes by car.

Rooms

Contemporary and bright, with balconies and marble bathrooms; Villas have superb ocean views

Deluxe Rooms, Suites, and Villas are all spacious, with modern wood floors and plenty of windows offering great natural light. Recessed ceilings and decorative molding add a luxurious touch, while traditional artwork and blue-tinged bed runners and throw pillows add pops of color to the mostly white and brown spaces. All rooms have balconies with seating, and some have exceptional ocean views. Suites have living rooms with additional comfortable furniture and Villas include 24/7 butler service, gazebos, and private pool access. Villas are especially romantic and attractive, with thatched roofs and landscaped gardens around decorative ponds. All rooms have flat-screen TVs on mid-tone wood furniture, while free bottled water and minibars are hidden inside. Electric kettles reside on wood desks and all rooms have air conditioning. Bathrooms are awash in tan marble, including the shower/tub combos, though Suites and Villas have separate walk-in tile showers and soaking tubs. There are some minor upkeep issues throughout the rooms, though, including less-than-immaculate bathrooms and dated curtains on the windows.

Features

Beach access plus three outdoor pools, spa, and several on-site restaurants and bars

The resort has its own palm-lined with a beach bar serving cocktails and beer tucked underneath a thatched roof. There are three pools on site including the huge, infinity Kintamani Lagoon Pool with a swim-up bar and fountains, as well as the exclusive Beratan Pool for Villa guests only. All three outdoor pools are encompassed by greenery with lovely ocean views. Asian-inspired treatments plus a hair salon and hot tub are offered at the Patra Spa, and there is live entertainment on some nights held at the outdoor Matahari Amphitheatre. A free area shuttle along with a business center and kids club are provided, and room and concierge services are available 24/7. Tennis courts, water polo, cooking demonstrations, and fruit carving are just some of the on-site activities. No fitness center is available, though, and airport transportation incurs a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and there are other family-friendly features like a shallow children's area at the pool, free cribs, and babysitting services (for a fee).

There are several dining options on site and most receive decent reviews from geusts. The included buffet breakfast (egg station, pastries, meats, pancakes, waffles, sausages) is served at Teratai Coffee Shop, the resort's 24-hour restaurant with international cuisine, themed dinners, and live entertainment. The Lobby Lounge sometimes has live piano music and serves cocktails, wine, and beer. Rinascimento Italian Restaurant has traditional Italian dishes while Ten Ku Japanese Restaurant offers teppanyaki. Small plates and drinks are served for lunch and dinner at the open-kitchen Heritage Floating Lounge.
