Bottom Line

Puri Dewa Bharata is a 48-room, three-pearl hotel located along bustling Nakula Street, a 15-minute walk from Double Six Beach and Seminyak shopping. The tropical setting is enhanced by buildings with traditional Balinese style. Room options include spacious two-story villas with thatched roofs, as well as standard hotel rooms. All are equipped with modern amenities, but interiors in some are poorly maintained and dated, with peeling paint, tired decor, and musty smelling bathrooms. Facilities are limited to an outdoor swimming pool and a small all-day restaurant. Tour and motorbike rentals, plus in-room massage treatments are offered as well. Parking and Wi-Fi are free. As an alternative, the Puri Cendana is slightly more expensive but is only a five-minute walk to the beach. Rooms there are also more pleasant.

Scene

A classic Bali hotel featuring traditional architecture, a laid-back vibe, and tropical setting

Puri Dewa Bharata Hotel features traditional Balinese architecture and carved red brick facades that make quite a statement. The property is lined with tropical greenery and feels spacious and far removed from the bustling street out front. It opened in 1998 and has a classic vibe and a relaxed atmosphere, though that unfortunately means things are dated and rough around the edges. There are limited facilities on-site, with just a small restaurant and swimming pool. The latter is the most attractive feature, and is set within a tropical garden with tall shade trees, tropical greenery, and flowering frangipani trees. Hand carved stone statues of Hindu deities with fountain features line the pool. However, the setting isn't always tranquil and being a family oriented hotel the pool is often full of rowdy kids during the day. Even so, this hotel is far enough from the party strip in Kuta to keep things relatively low-key.

Location

Along bustling Nakula Street, a 15-minute walk from Double Six Beach and Seminyak shopping

While this isn't a beachfront property and is far from the party scene in Kuta, the location here is relatively convenient. Nakula Street, in front of the hotel, is a bustling strip lined with numerous dining and shopping options as well as the popular tourist attraction, the Dream Museum Zone Bali. Within a 15-minute walk from the hotel guests can access popular shops and dining options in Seminyak, like Bintang Supermarket, Ryoshis House of Jazz, Made's Warung, and Cocoon Beach Club. Legian's party strip takes about 15 minutes to reach by car from the hotel. Guests looking for more classy nightlife options and upscale restaurants should take the 20-minute drive over to the Oberoi and Petitenget areas, which feature amazing fine-dining restaurants and Bali's most popular beach clubs, including Potato Head, KU DE TA, and W Bali. Budget about 30 to 45 minutes for airport transfers.

Rooms

Rooms and villas feature modern amenities, plus Balinese facades and stylings but are tired and dated

The hotel features 48 rooms and Villas, which include the Super Deluxe Rooms and Suites located in the hotel's multi-storied building as well as two-story Family Villas that overlook the pool and garden. Rooms are decorated in traditional Balinese style and feature carved wooden furniture. Most have above-average floor-plans, especially compared to most hotels in this price range. However, with the exception of modern suites, most are dated and rundown, with issues like peeling paint, mold stains, chipped furniture, and musty bathrooms. Rooms are outfitted with upholstered couches, work tables and chairs, and small balcony seating areas (except for the Deluxe Rooms).

Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, safes, mini-fridges, coffee- and tea-making facilities, plus two bottles of mineral water. Villas are housed in two-story bungalows with traditional Balinese lumbung (rice barn) layouts. The two floors are connected by an external staircase and the villas can be either rented as a whole unit for families or separately for other travelers. The downstairs floors have large open lounge spaces, but are quite dark and musty, whereas the upstairs areas get great light and airflow while featuring parquet flooring and small garden terraces. Bathrooms throughout have cream colored marble tiling, long vanities with large mirrors, and shower/tub combos.

Features

A swimming pool with a tropical setting, a small restaurant, tour services, and free shuttles

The facilities at Puri Dewa Bharata Hotel are limited and fairly basic, with just a swimming pool and a small all-day restaurant. The outdoor pool is a hub of activity throughout the day, with kids splashing around and families trying to keep cool from the tropical heat. Tall trees, tropical greenery, flowering frangipani, and flowing fountains surround the pool. There's also a shallow kids' section and plenty of lounge chairs laid out. Saraswati Restaurant serves food all day and the menu includes both Indonesian and Western dishes. A decent alcohol selection is available as well. However, food prices aren't reasonable for such a basic restaurant and judging by the many poor guest reviews of the food, eating out at one of the many nearby dining options in Kuta or Seminyak may be the best bet. Breakfast is only included in selected room rates and is served in a buffet format with a selection fried rice and noodle dishes, eggs, cereal, baked goods, fresh fruits, plus coffee and tea. There's a small tour desk offering motorbike rentals, transport services, and guided tours in the lobby. A free one-way shuttle service is offered twice a day to Kuta Beach and surrounding areas. Wi-Fi is free throughout and there is a large on-site parking lot.
