Bottom Line

The beachfront, 402-room Ramada Bintang Bali Resort is an upscale property on expansive tropical grounds that’s within a five-minute walk of restaurants, attractions, and shops. Slightly dated rooms all have balconies, free Wi-Fi, and large flat-screen TVs, plus marble bathrooms, though we did notice wear and tear on some furniture. The large, zero entry outdoor pool has a swim-up bar, and the resort also features a fitness center, a kids' club, and several dining and drinking establishments -- the free breakfast receives particularly excellent reviews. Guests looking for a more intimate hotel stay in this area of Bali may want to try the Kuta Seaview Boutique Resort & Spa -- rates will be cheaper, though the property lacks a fitness center.

Scene

Large scale resort with attractive landscaped grounds

Statues, trees, and flowers along with a beautiful tiered fountain adorn the entrance to the Ramada Bintang Bali Resort. The grand, open-air lobby has wood-beamed ceilings and light marble floors and stairs lined with traditional sculptures, plus a striking gold Garuda at the center of the room. Traditional carvings line the walls throughout the resort, while the Lobby Bar has tall wood chairs and potted flowers. The beachfront Wharf Beach Restaurant has outdoor dining on a wood deck with large barrel tables and light wicker furniture, while the stylish La Brasserie has wood chairs, a black ceiling, and gray flooring. Wood floors cover the comfortable Sedap Malam Lounge, where walls of windows illuminate the space and wicker chairs provide seating. This resort sits on 15 acres of tropical gardens with wonderful Balinese statues, wood benches, and flowers throughout, and draws plenty of families and couples on holiday.

Location

Central Kuta, on Tuban Beach

A side street off of busy, traffic-clogged Kartika Road leads to the Ramada Bintang Bali Resort, which sits on Tuban Beach. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, clubs, and bars just around the corner from the resort. The Lippo Mall is a five-minute walk from the resort while the Discovery Shopping Mall is 10 minutes away on foot. Waterbom Park is a 10-minute walk from the hotel while Ngurah Rai International Airport is a five-minute drive, and Kuta Beach and Kuta Square are within a 10-minute drive. More tranquil Nusa Dua Beach takes about 30 minutes to reach by car and Ubud is a little more than an hour away by road.

Rooms

Modern, if slightly dated, rooms with furnished balconies or terraces

There are several room categories to choose from here, though all area relatively simple and have a mix of contemporary and slightly dated furniture or design features. Deluxe Rooms are a bit narrow and have unattractive parquet floors, with tan walls and lighted wall alcoves with decorative statuary. Teak-colored wood laminate floors in Deluxe Suites are a bit more fresh, and some rooms have tan couches and soft multicolored area rugs, while others have brown wicker armchairs. Contemporary wood or padded headboards on Twin or King beds look sharp against white duvets. All rooms feature balconies with wooden seating along with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and safes. Flat-screen TVs, flowers, and fresh fruit sit on dark wood furniture pieces. Some rooms have a musty odor, though, and we saw some wear and tear on the furniture. Bathrooms vary from room to room as well. Some are stylish and contemporary, with raised sinks on large vanities, though others have drab tan marble floors and walls and outdated fixtures. Toiletries are provided and rooms have bathtub/shower combos. Suites offer far more space and multi-bedroom units are also available for small groups or families.
