Travelers who want to spend a bit more might consider the slightly more upscale Bali Niksoma Boutique Beach Resort, which has more modern style and features like a spa and fitness center.

Alternatively, The Camakila Legian is slightly more expensive, but features direct beach access, stunning grounds, and more complete facilities.

Baleka Resort Hotel & Spa is a three-pearl resort in central Legian, a short walk from shopping and dining and an eight-minute walk from Legian Beach. While the resort has its modern charms -- like it's long outdoor pool with a kiddie pool and swim-up bar -- the 82 rooms are simple and some decor verges on dated. They include minibars, free Wi-FI, and flat-screen TVs. The Baleka also has an on-site spa, and a restaurant serving Indonesian and Western fare -- the latter gets solid marks from previous guests and serves a popular breakfast buffet, though it's not free. The Baleka is a little more basic than the nearby AQ-VA Hotel & Villas, where rooms are far fresher and brighter, and rates are just a bit higher.

The 154-room Akmani Legian is an upscale hotel that's a calm oasis amid busy and wild Legian. All manner of shops, restaurants, and nightlife are in any direction, and the beach is less than 10 minutes away on foot. This contemporary property has two restaurants, a small spa, a fitness center, and a kids’ club, but the highlight here is the rooftop deck, complete with a pool, a swim-up bar, and a lounge area with bar service. Rooms are contemporary and stylish, though they can be compact. The nearby Magani Hotel and Spa offers larger rooms, but rates are higher. 

Bali Court Hotel and Apartments is a contemporary mid-range boutique located near downtown Legian and a 10-minute walk from Legian Beach. The 25 rooms are centered around two large adjoined swimming pools with lap pool and shallow kids' sections. Superior Rooms and Apartments are both modernly styled and feature balconies or terraces. Interiors are bright and airy and rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges. Both one- and two-bedrooms apartments are available and feature spacious floor plans with dining room areas, kitchenettes, and living rooms. Hot Mango Restaurant features open-air seating by the pool and serves international cuisine. As an alternative, the FuramaXclusive Ocean Beach is similarly priced, though it has a spa and is right across from Double Six Beach.

The Loft Legian Hotel is a small two-and-a-half-pearl budget hotel located in downtown Kuta. It's only a five-minute walk from the beach and 15 minutes from the popular nightclub scene along Legian Street. The affordable room rates and prime location are the hotel's biggest assets, as facilities are limited and there's no pool. The hotel does have an internet corner, and there's a branch of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on-site. Rooms are basic and small, though pleasantly modern and clean, with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, and work desks. For a slightly higher nightly rate, The ONE Legian hotel has better facilities including two spacious pools, a spa, fitness center, and restaurants. 

FuramaXclusive Ocean Beach is a three-and-a-half pearl hotel across the road from Double Six Beach, and a short walk from shopping, dining, and bars in Legian and Seminyak. With its large freeform swimming pool, sunset-facing restaurant, multiple bars, attractive spa, and beach-ready location, it's one of the better values in the area. On the downside, the pool area and many of the rooms could use sprucing up, despite their modern veneer. All rooms are spacious studios, suites, and penthouses, and include free Wi-Fi, iPod docks, and flat-screen TVs with DVD players. Balconies or terraces come standard, and some have partial ocean views. Travelers who want something with a more polished finish and Balinese character should consider AQ-VA Hotel & Villas as well, which is cheaper, but farther from the beach.

Legian Guest House is an affordably priced, 13-room value hotel located along a quiet lane off of bustling Sunset Road highway. The hotel's name is somewhat misleading, as downtown Legian is a 10-minute drive from the hotel and Legian Beach is around 15 minutes away by car. To help, the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the Legian area. Facilities and rooms are basic and the hotel is essentially a cheap crash pad, though the social vibe adds some charm. Features are limited to a small pool and a small restaurant. Rooms are compact, simple, and clean, and include air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. For a similarly priced hotel with a better downtown location, the Loft Legian Hotel offers modern rooms closer to the beach, though it lacks a pool.

The two-and-a-half-pearl Jayakarta Bali has 344 rooms and a great location next to Legian Beach, with shops and restaurants nearby. While the hotel’s gardens and grounds are pretty and tropical, this isn't a peaceful, relaxing choice. Rooms are dated and dark, with numerous reports of unpleasant sewage smells in the bathrooms, plus barely working Wi-Fi and lots of wear. The two pools are attractive -- one has a swim-up bar -- but they are busy and loud, and loungers can be difficult to score. The hotel can feel crowded, and its somewhat rowdy atmosphere is more suited to large groups than couples seeking a romantic getaway. Travelers will get more for their money at the cheaper Ossotel down the block. It has a contemporary, boutique vibe, but a smaller pool.
