Bottom Line

Villa de daun is a boutique four-and-a-half-pearl, all-villa property located in downtown Legian, next to Bali's wild nightclub scene. The hotel has spacious lawns with tall trees adding some tropical romance, and the ambience is tranquil and laid-back -- a glaring contrast to the buzz of activity outside. Facilities include a lovely spa and a restaurant serving international and Indonesian cuisines, but are otherwise limited. Villas are stunning, and include private plunge pools plus extras like Bose speakers, espresso machines, and butler services. Afternoon tea and free minibars are also included in rates. As an alternative, guests may want to check out Sun Island Villas, which has similar amenities and slightly cheaper rates, though a slightly less refined style.

Scene

Tranquil and luxurious all-villa property located in the heart of Legian's nightlife

Villa de daun is located next door to one of Bali's busiest tourist hubs, Legian Street, which is lined with blaring nightclubs and bars. However, once inside the hotel, it feels almost worlds apart. The ambience inside is tranquil and the grounds are spacious, featuring beautifully manicured lawns and pathways lined with tall palm trees and tropical greenery. There's a blend of colonial and Balinese styles throughout, and spaces like the lobby features marble floors, koi ponds, and comfy seating. Dala Spa is the hotel's most attractive facility, and is popular with both hotel guests and other travelers. Spa interiors are Victorian inspired and each treatment room features a different color scheme and decor. De daun Restauant is understated and intimate, overlooking manicured lawns and tropical greenery from an open-air wooden pergola. All in all, with its high-level services like butlers, and the private villas, this property is best for couples seeking a little seclusion amid one of the island's busier areas.

Location

Located in the heart of Legian's buzzing nightlife, a 10-minute walk to Kuta Beach

The hotel's location is prime for downtown Legian, tucked down a quiet lane that helps minimize noise, though only a short walk from Legian's wild party scene. The largest and most buzzing nightclubs -- such as Eikon, Skygarden, and Vi Ai Pi -- are all less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. There's also a large variety of restaurants, shops, and cafes along Legian Street. The hotel is around a 10-minute walk from Kuta Beach and 15 minutes from Beachwalk Shopping Mall. Waterbom Park and Discovery Shopping Mall are both located around a 15- to 20-minute drive from the hotel. The airport takes 25 to 30 minutes to reach by car, but driving times can be longer during peak traffic hours.

Rooms

Spacious and luxurious villas, with elegant interiors, private plunge pools, butlers, and high-end tech

The hotel has spacious one- to three-bedroom villas that feature elegantly appointed interiors, private plunge pools, living rooms, and kitchens. Interiors are stylish, but understated, with rich hardwood flooring and lightly colored walls that are sparsely decorated with carved wooden reliefs and eye-catching artwork. Villas are outfitted with comfy sofas, tables and chairs, and canopy beds with quality mattresses and linens. Bedrooms are bright and airy, with large glass doors that lead out to private plunge pools surrounded by tall palms, heliconias, and flowering frangipani. Standard features include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, Bose speakers, espresso machines, free Wi-Fi, free minibar items, and safes. Butler services are also available.

Lower category one-bedroom villas features outdoor kitchens and dining rooms, whereas the Deluxe One-Bedroom Villas feature indoor living rooms and kitchens, and also have covered pool gazebos and outdoor soaking tubs. Three-Bedroom Villas are huge and feature lavish open-air lounge areas overlooking larger pools. The style in all bathrooms are contemporary and chic, with cream colored marble floors, and contrasting black marble covering the long vanities and surrounding the deep soaking tubs (which look out onto the pool). Bathrooms also have spacious glass showers with rainfall showerheads.

Features

A luxurious spa plus welcome massages, restaurant serving international and Indonesian cuisine, and afternoon tea

Facilities on offer at Villa de daun are limited, and include a small restaurant, luxury spa, and lobby lounge area, but no main pool. Dala Spa offers a variety of massage and beauty treatments and features luxurious private treatment rooms with comfy upholstered seating, deep soaking tubs, and elegant Victorian styled interiors. Welcome massages are also offered to guests. The de daun restaurant is housed in a semi open-air pergola and is set along a picturesque tropical lawn, lined with flowering frangipani and tall palms. Its menu is international, though highlights Indonesian cuisine. Breakfast is included in most bookings and is served directly in the villas. In-villa dining services like romantic candle lit dinners and barbecues can also be arranged. A small library with a desktop computer for guests to use adjoins the restaurant. The free afternoon tea service with desserts, and the free area shuttles, are also nice perks. Both parking and Wi-Fi are free.
