Bottom Line

This mid-sized, upscale property is more like a tropical compound than a typical hotel. With 76 rooms in 52 separate villas, the property can accommodate parties of all sizes. There are two large lagoon-style pools (into which the Lagoon Villas open directly), and some rooms have private pools and whirlpool tubs. All villas have simple but modern decor and amenities, with large bathrooms that include huge tubs and rainfall showers. The full-service spa offers a wide variety of treatments and also has a sauna and whirlpool. Breakfast is included in most rates and is served buffet-style in the on-site restaurant, which stays open for lunch and dinner; room service is also available. While there is no direct access to the sea, several area beaches are within a five-minute drive away.

Scene

Private, relaxing, and tropical spa resort with traditional styling

Guests at the Villa Seminyak Estate & Spa are greeted with towels and drinks. A row of instrument-wielding Balinese statues and a large fountain line the entranceway. The open-air lobby has an authentic vibe, with traditional masks and statues, tiki torches, and dark-wood furnishings.  The rest of the resort consists of multiple thatched-roof buildings and lots of lush greenery. The vibe is relaxed and private, and the resort is a good option for groups, families, and couples looking for privacy.

Location

In Seminyak, a short drive to local beaches

Located in Seminyak, this property is within a five-minute drive of both Double Six Beach and Legian Beach, and is about 10 minutes from Kuta Beach and Seminyak Square. Golf carts ferry guests to the nearby main street, a cute Balinese shopping strip with a number of great restaurants and local spas. Airport pickups/drop-offs can be arranged through the hotel and the trip takes about 30 minutes -- sometimes longer depending on traffic.

Rooms

Villa-style lodgings with modern amenities and lots of space; some have private pools

The resort's 54 villas are regularly refurbished and thus in consistently great shape. They range in size from one to three bedrooms, and the layouts in larger units are ideal for families or groups wishing to stay together without compromising on privacy. Lagoon Villas open directly into a long outdoor pool, and some villas -- including the Grand Deluxe Villa -- have their own private pools.

Decor is simple and clean with a modern feel; colors are neutral for the most part, with the occasional red throw pillow, lamp, or bean bag. The wood or marble floors run throughout the separate living areas, which have sofas and comfy chair options, and on to the high-ceilinged bedrooms. Many of the villas have two levels. Amenities vary, but most villas have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, safes, and some type of refrigeration unit (ranging in size from stocked minibars to small upright fridges). Some of the multi-room suites have kitchenettes and water purifiers. Large bathrooms come with big tubs and separate rainfall showers.

While the property is generally quiet, some traffic noise can be heard from villas closer to the main road (such as the Royal Villa). Past guests have reported the presence of both insects and their main predators, lizards.

Features

Full-service spa, lagoon pools, on-site restaurant, free breakfast, and 24-hour room service

The full-service spa offers a wide menu of treatment options -- including massages, coconut scrubs, foot bath rituals, and body wraps -- and the multiple treatment rooms open into fresh air garden areas with fountains and native plants, adding to the feeling of tranquility. There is also a whirlpool and sauna for guest use, and the property has two pools. The small Lagoon Pool is surrounded by greenery, but lacks lounge chairs. The long pool between the Lagoon Villas is akin to a lap pool but has lounge chairs and a patio area at one end. Sunsets are also visible from this section, making it a nice place to relax at dusk.

The on-site Kedis Restaurant is open for the breakfast buffet (included in most room rates), which comes with made-to-order pancakes and eggs. It's also open for lunch, dinner, and 24-hour room service, and serves a variety of international, Balinese, and Asian dishes. In-villa BBQs and romantic meals can be arranged, and guests with special diets are well looked after. While there is no gym or business center, there is a computer in the lobby which guests can use. Free Wi-Fi is also available in some public areas.
