Cons
  • Few on-site facilities on offer

  • Some rooms have dated interiors and poorly working showers and A/C

  • The pool is small and gets crowded at times

  • No cocktails or wine served, only beer

  • Although fairly quiet for Kuta noise pollution is still a problem here

Bottom Line

Yulia Beach Inn is a 43-room mid-range hotel located in the heart of downtown Kuta. The tropical garden setting and Balinese style are attractive, especially considering the price point. However, facilities are limited and only include a swimming pool and restaurant. Rooms are clean and spacious, if sometimes dated, and feature modern amenities plus balconies. The best asset is the location, just a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach, the arts market, and Kuta Square. Waterbom Bali, Beachwalk Mall, and popular nightclubs are all within a 10-minute walk as well. The hotel is popular with families and retirees and has a laid-back vibe. Added bonus? It's fairly quiet (by Kuta standards, at least). Travelers seeking a more contemporary nearby alternative might consider Kuta Angel, which is cheaper, but rooms are smaller.

Scene

A laid-back city-center hotel with tropical grounds that's popular with families and retirees

Yulia Beach Inn is a small hotel in downtown Kuta that's been open since 1972. The hotel features a blend of Balinese and nominally modern design elements, all of which is offset by manicured tropical landscaping, natural stone walls, intricately carved limestone reliefs, and statuary. Although the hotel is in bustling downtown Kuta, it's tucked down a small laneway and feels removed from the buzz of downtown. The intimate grounds are shaded with tall trees, flowering bougainvillea, and frangipani, which help keep create a cool, tropical setting. Set in the garden is a swimming pool, which is a hub of activity and fairly small so it can get quite crowded. The restaurant -- Yulia's Kitchen -- is an affordably priced, semi open-air, street side restaurant with plenty of seating and a buzzing social vibe. The hotel's laid-back vibe makes it a popular choice for families and retirees, though some parts are starting to look a bit dated and tired.

Location

In downtown Kuta, a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach and 10 minutes from Legian's nightclubs

The best feature of Yulia Beach Inn is its location, positioned along bustling Jl Pantai Kuta road in the heart of downtown. It's just a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach and Kuta Square. The hotel is also within walking distance of Kuta's most popular tourist attractions, which means guests venturing out on foot can easily avoid the insane downtown traffic. there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars surrounding the hotel, plus major destinations like Beachwalk Shopping Mall, Discovery Shopping Mall, Waterbom Bali, and Legian's most popular nightclubs are all within a 10-minute walk. Airport transfers are fairly painless from the hotel and usually don't take more than 20 to 30 minutes.

Rooms

Tidy rooms with bright interiors and modern amenities, though some are looking tired

There are three categories of rooms at the hotel, all of which are simple and feature balconies with outdoor seating. Decor is minimal and a bit tired, with bare white walls, large glass windows with sheer curtains, bronze colored blackout blinds, and a mix of wood and rattan furniture. Each room comes outfitted with large wardrobes with plenty of hanging and shelf space, plus wooden beds with comfy mattresses. Standard amenities include small flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, mini-fridges, safes, air-conditioning, and telephones, plus extras like mineral water and slippers. Keep in mind that the A/C isn't always the most reliable.

Deluxe Premier Rooms are the most popular, as these are the only rooms with pool views. The Super Deluxe Rooms are a more recent addition to the hotel and overall have fresher interiors. However, they don't have the best views, as they overlook the driveway and are closer to the noisy road. Deluxe Premier and Deluxe Rooms overlook the garden and pool and are more quiet and private. Unfortunately, these have the most dated interiors, showing signs of wear and tear.

Bathrooms feature long vanity counters plus either shower/tub combos or glass shower cubicles, depending on the room type. One thing to note is that this is an older hotel (opened in 1972) and while the rooms we inspected during our tour of the hotel were fairly well maintained, guests do frequently report bad smelling bathrooms and malfunctioning showers.

Features

A small swimming pool, a streetside restaurant, an authorized money changer, and free Wi-Fi

Yulia Beach Inn is a small, affordably priced hotel with minimal facilities. The swimming pool is a bit small for laps, but does feature a shallow kids' section and a nice setting surrounded by greenery. However, given its size it can get crowded. Yulia's Kitchen is an affordably priced, open-air restaurant that overlooks the bustling street. The menu includes Indonesian and Western dishes, with burgers, steaks, pasta dishes, and fried rice. Cocktails and wine aren't served at the restaurant, but beer is available. Breakfast is included in most room rates and is served a la carte, with American, Continental, and Indonesian options. There is an authorized money exchange service at the front desk. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and on-site parking is available.
