Bottom Line
The 24-room Adamaz House is a budget option that's close to dozens of restaurants, shops, and attractions, as well as the nightlife of Khaosan Road. Rooms range from dorm-style units with bunk beds to a rooftop suite with an outdoor bathroom and sitting area. Although all units are simple and compact, they include en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Coffee and snacks are served in the lobby around-the-clock, and the rooftop terrace is a popular spot for hanging out, but that's about it for features. Keep in mind that alcohol isn't allowed on-site. Travelers seeking more amenities at similar rates could check out the nearby Rambuttri Village Inn & Plaza, which has two rooftop pools and a Thai restaurant.

Quiet, simple place for young backpackers on a budget
This hotel is a quiet, simple place where alcohol is not allowed in accordance with the owner's religious beliefs. However, Khaosan Road and its many entertainment options are only five minutes away on foot. Communal areas include the lobby -- where free coffee and snacks are served 24/7 -- and the rooftop terrace, with views overlooking the city. In any case, the lack of features here mean that it's best used as a clean and reliable place to crash at night. The atmosphere is friendly and laid-back, attracting many European backpackers, couples, and small groups of friends, mostly twenty- and thirtysomethings.
Location
Quiet alleyway location a five-minute walk from Khaosan Road and a river boat stop
Located down a long, narrow alleyway surrounded by old wooden houses, this hotel is in one of the oldest parts of Bangkok, known Phra Nakhon. Infamous Khaosan Road is a five-minute walk from the hotel and has most everything that backpackers could want, with an array of affordable cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, and nightlife. Guests also can walk to a river boat stop in about five minutes, for access to The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, and Chinatown. A mosque is located around the corner. Keep in mind that aside from the river boats, there isn't any public transit in this part of town. Budget at least an hour to reach either airport -- Don Mueang or Suvarnabhumi -- as traffic in Bangkok is horrible almost all day long.
Rooms
Clean, simple rooms with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, en-suite bathrooms, and balconies
Four types of rooms are available here: dorm-style rooms with bunk beds, Standard Twin with two twin beds, Superior Queen with a king-size bed, and a Rooftop Suite with a king-size bed and outstanding city views. All are decorated in a simple style and come with satellite flat-screen TVs, en-suite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges. Rooms have coat racks rather than closets for hanging clothes. There are some further thoughtful touches here as well. The well-designed dorm-style rooms -- for up to four people each -- offer lockers, individual TVs with headphones, and small drop-down tables by the beds. Pillows, sheets, and towels are provided, and curtains can be drawn across the beds for privacy. Standard Twin rooms are a step up, but still small, with golden or red accent walls, and decorative pillows atop white linens. These rooms add kettles for tea and coffee, small safes, and little balconies. Superior Queen rooms actually offer king-size beds and Thai-style artwork on walls, as well as small private balconies. In all of these lower-category rooms, the bathrooms have wet-room layouts, meaning the whole thing will get wet during a shower. The Rooftop Suite on the fifth floor is the favored room here, as it offers spectacular views over the city, along with an outdoor bathroom and sitting area. It's a cozy little room with a king-size bed and floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides looking out on the city.
Features
Free coffee and snacks in lobby 24/7, rooftop terrace, free Wi-Fi, books, and magazines
This guest house is the definition of basic, so it doesn't offer much beyond its rooms. Coffee, juice, water, and snacks such as fruit, pastries, and breads are available for free in the lobby around-the-clock. A vending machine dispenses additional drinks for a fee. The rooftop terrace is a nice spot for dining or just hanging out, and there also are tables and chairs set up on balconies along the sides of the building. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and books and magazines are available in the lobby for guests to read.
