Planted on an unremarkable side street, iSanook is spread over four separate but connected gray and yellow buildings. Pleasant-looking walkways with benches and greenery separate the spaces, but some guests might find their rooms are a bit far from the amenities. The overall look of the hotel’s large public areas is modern, with a subtle nod to ‘70s mod in the orange design details, though some areas like hallways, elevators, and eating spaces are painted a dull gray and feel somewhat sterile. The at-home atmosphere -- this hotel is actually iSanook Residences (there's also a hostel) -- starts in the lobby, where there's plenty of space to lounge on black sofas or wooden hanging chairs. iSanook attracts all kinds of travelers thanks to the variety of features and spacious rooms, but may be particularly appealing to families or travelers on longer journeys thanks to amenities like kitchen and laundry facilities. 

First things first, do not Google iSanook Residences to find this hotel's address -- we have the correct location noted for you on our map. That fact aside, the iSanook is still a bit difficult to find, located on a narrow street away from the main road in Bang Rak, Bangkok’s main commercial center full of shopping, nightlife and restaurants. The alley location means it’s quieter than hotels on the main drags, but some guests might find the walk to and from the hotel entrance somewhat off-putting at night. The Sam Yan Metro station is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, while Patpong Night Market and buzzy Silom Road are a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Other top sights like Wat Pho and the Grand Palace can be reached by car in 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Budget at least an hour to reach either of the city's major airports -- traffic can be an unpredictable beast in Bangkok.

All of the rooms at iSanook are spacious and modern, if entirely simple from a design perspective. Walls and linens are generally white with orange touches and a simple nautical theme with names of Bangkok piers painted on headboards. Amenities are excellent, and even the 32-square-meter (344-square-foot) iSanook Studio has a desk, sitting area, lots of sunlight, and a balcony with a view over the low buildings in the neighborhood. This category also comes with a mini-fridge. The suites have separate living rooms and full kitchens with large refrigerators, stovetops, and cookware. All rooms also have 40-inch LED TVs, safes, wardrobes, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and a towel for the pool. The largest room, the 67-square-meter (721-square-foot) Family Suite Deluxe, has two separate bedrooms and can sleep four or more people comfortably. Bathrooms in all rooms are basic, but clean, and have just a bit of counter space, glass stall showers, and toiletries. It's also worth noting that guests may need to ask to have housekeeping take care of their rooms every day.

For a three-and-a-half Pearl hotel, iSanook has a variety of standard amenities along with some surprising extras. A rooftop pool, whirlpool, and sundeck, all surrounded by greenery (along with some decent city views), are a highlight, as is the gym, which is small but features modern treadmills, stationary bikes, and good weight machines. Rooms can be booked with or without the basic breakfast buffet, which is located in the cafeteria-style restaurant. This area also has an unremarkable, but full, bar with a handful of barstools. Unlike many similar hotels in this category, iSanook has a shared full kitchen, separate dining area, entertainment room, and laundry room -- features more often seen at a hostel, but which are nonetheless handy for saving some money. There is no business center, just a computer in a corner near a vending machine, as well as a small book exchange library. Other perks include on-site parking, cribs and high chairs for children, free daytime tuk-tuk service with previous arrangement, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
