This friendly chain hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and a bright, modern motif throughout. Geared toward tourists on a budget, it's clean and simply decorated with basic facilities. The building stands out on the busy street thanks to its bold red sign, and the hotel's large fox mascot stands proudly in the doorway. The lobby lounge is sleek and spacious, with neutral tones, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a seating area with curved sofas topped with the hotel's signature red and gray pillows. There's a long light wood table and chairs next to the front desk, where guests can sip coffee and read the free daily newspapers. Other than the lobby, though, there are no real communal areas, which means the hotel lacks a little atmosphere. The hotel is popular with tourists, attracting a lot of couples and solo travelers. 

The Red Planet Surawong Bangkok is located in Silom, one of Bangkok's premier shopping districts and a major business hub. It's a good location for tourists, as there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and nightclubs in the surrounding area. Additionally, the San Yam Metro station and Chong Nonsi Skytrain station are both a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Patpong Night Market is five minutes away on foot, for those who want a peek into one of Bangkok's most notorious red light districts (or to sample excellent street food). The Sri Maraiamman Temple is within easy walking distance from the hotel, while the impressive Grand Palace and Wat Pho Temple are 10 minutes away by taxi or tuk tuk. Lumpini Park is a 15-minute walk, while the MBK Shopping Center and Siam Square should take around 10 minutes to reach by taxi. However, traffic is horrible in Bangkok, so drive times are likely to be longer. With that in mind, budget at least an hour to reach either of the city's airports.

The hotel has 201 basic rooms with either double or single beds. They're clean and modern, with white walls, hardwood floors, tiny work desks, and comfortable beds dressed in fresh white linens. Contemporary black-and-white graphics of Bangkok are printed on the doors and window blinds, while maps of the city hang on the walls. Standard in-room amenities include air-conditioning, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, safes, phones, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. Note that Wi-Fi can be spotty. The only other downside is the lack of space, so guests with a lot of luggage might have an issue. Rooms also lack closets, though a few hangers on hooks are provided. Higher-floor windows offer nice views of the city, but there are no balconies. Bathrooms are clean, but a bit cramped, with neutral tiling, walk-in power showers, and free pump toiletries. The hotel is mostly quiet, with some noise reported from nightclubs outside and other guests in the hallways. 

The Red Planet Surawong Bangkok only has the most basic facilities. A casual Italian pizza restaurant downstairs -- called Scoozi -- offers a wide selection of Italian wines and outdoor seating. An American a la carte breakfast is also available, but this costs extra. The hotel also shares its building with a 7-11 convenience store, and there's a small cafe in the lobby serving fresh coffee, sandwiches, snacks, and cold soft drinks. There's a small computer station with Mac computers and printers, but no fitness or spa facilities. Other services include a 24-hour front desk, laundry, dry cleaning, and free Wi-Fi. Kids under 11 stay for free.
