Bottom Line

The 58-room Atlantic Eyrie Lodge is a family-owned value hotel situated on a hill that looks out on woods and a waterfront. The lodge has a motel feel to it, with balconies wrapping around the building and standard, simple rooms with dated decor, but the gorgeous views of Frenchman Bay are some of the best in town. A lovely outdoor pool, larger family rooms, and affordable rates attract families, while those traveling with canine friends are enticed by pet-friendly rooms and large grassy grounds surrounding the hotel.

Scene

Family-friendly motel-like property with dated interiors and gorgeous views of Frenchman Bay

Upon first impression, the Atlantic Eyrie Lodge looks like a motel, with a large parking lot out front and balconies running along each floor of the bleak, beige structure. The interiors are similarly cloaked in beiges and taupes and have a dated look, but are clean and comfortable. The beautiful views, however, are this family-owned lodge's biggest selling point, and its views over Frenchman Bay and the Porcupine Islands are among the best in town in fact. Guests can take in the lush panorama or watch deer that often graze on the grounds from the privacy of their own balconies or by the large outdoor pool. The atmosphere is quiet and friendly and attracts families with its affordable rates, larger family rooms and suites, pool, and ample green space.

Location

Hillside location with panoramic views of Frenchman Bay, a short drive to downtown Bar Harbor

The Atlantic Eyrie Lodge is located on a quiet hill near downtown Bar Harbor, a quaint and picturesque town on Maine’s Mount Desert Island and the main access point to Acadia National Park. The lodge is surrounded by grassy grounds and woods, with views of Frenchman Bay and the Porcupine Islands. Downtown Bar Harbor is a five-minute drive away from the lodge and is also accessible via a free shuttle bus that also makes stops in Acadia National Park.

Rooms

Dated rooms with gorgeous views from private balconies

There are several rooms to choose from at the Atlantic Eyrie Lodge, from King and Queen Rooms furnished with a king bed and two queen beds respectively, to larger Family Rooms that include sofa beds. The lodge also offers One-bedroom Suites with kitchens, complete with stoves, ovens, microwaves, coffeemakers, toasters, and full-sized fridges. The decor is dated and nothing special, and includes carpets that show some wear and tear, patterned curtains, and wooden furniture. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, irons, and hairdryers. Bathrooms are small and have shower curtains that need replacing and there are extra sinks in the bedrooms.

Though the rooms are plain and basic, the showstoppers here are the gorgeous views over Frenchman Bay and the lovely green grounds. Each room has a private balcony with wicker furniture and a picturesque panorama. Pet-friendly rooms with tiled floors are available on the ground floor.
