Bottom Line

Best Western Acadia Park Inn is motel-style and no-frills, but is one of the most popular value hotels in the area thanks to its clean rooms, woodsy location, and free large breakfast with hot items. Located on a quiet two-lane road and surrounded by nature, it is relatively easy to get around. There’s a free shuttle service that takes guests to the downtown areas where there are restaurants, bars and cafes. Spread out across 15 acres of foliage and five buildings, all 94 smoke-free rooms have exterior entrances. The hotel is open seasonally and offers free parking, including RV parking. Rooms are simple but clean, spacious, and equipped with microwaves and mini-fridges. Some may find the rooms at the similarly priced (and year-round) Acadia Hotel quainter and more charming, however.

Scene

Motel-style hotel with warm decor

Despite the average-looking exterior of the Best Western Acadia Park Inn, the rooms and common areas are much more inviting. The grounds are spacious, with ample foliage typical of the region and a few park benches. In typical motel-style layout, all rooms have exterior entrances. Due to its remote location, things are fairly quiet here at night but for those who do want to access the downtown area, it’s a free shuttle bus ride away via The Island Explorer that runs seasonally from late June through early October. There’s a shuttle stop right outside of the hotel.

The lobby area features a cozy fireplace, an office nook with a swivel chair and computer, and comfortable couches and seats spread out across the space. The main couch faces the fireplace while the other chairs are positioned near the flat-screen television. There's a small popcorn machine and free popcorn is available in the evenings in addition to free cookies and other treats.

The hotel serves free breakfast in their dining room which has ample seating for families and larger groups. The walls are painted in a cool blue color that brings a calm atmosphere to the room while framed local photography gives it a more personal touch. The light wooden chairs with sleek black seat cushions are constant throughout, as are the lights that hang from the ceiling. Guests can choose from two-top tables and bar-styled seats.

Location

Located on two-lane country road near nature

The Best Western Acadia Park Inn is conveniently located near the Bar Harbor Campground and a 10-minute drive from Hancock County-Bar Harbour Airport. Alternatively, Bangor International Airport is fifty miles from the hotel. If traveling by car, there is a direct route and a slightly more scenic one that leads to Route 3 where the hotel is located. There are several other hotels dotted along Bar Harbour Road and a restaurant serving fresh Maine lobster up the street. Although the hotel is a 12-minute drive to downtown Bar Harbour, the rooms are slightly bigger than average.

Rooms

Clean rooms equipped for longer stays

Rooms at the Best Western Acadia are styled simply and equipped with small refrigerators, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Decor varies between rooms; many units have earthy green and brown color palettes and plain, dated wood furniture, while some have a bit more charm, with striped wallpaper and nautical artwork. All are clean, with wall-to-wall carpeting and white linens. The hotel is well-suited for guests staying multiple nights, as there are designated laundry baskets in the rooms and a washer/dryer on the grounds. Bathrooms are spacious and include walk-in showers, tiled floors, and marble counter-tops. Suites have even more space and a full kitchen with a large refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster and small kitchen table for meals.

Features

Basic hotel with amenities for longer stays

While the outside architecture isn’t anything special, the indoor dining room and facilities are much more inviting, especially due to renovations. The free breakfast includes hot eggs and breakfast meats in addition to cereals, waffles and fresh fruit among other selections. Guests have the option of getting a breakfast-to-go bag as well, which can be arranged at the front desk the day before. Free treats and snacks like homemade cookies and whoopie pies are available in the lobby during evenings. The heated outdoor pool is on the small side and is especially popular among families. There are common laundry facilities on site and a free seasonal shuttle bus that stops right outside the hotel and makes various stops including downtown Bar Harbour. The hotel only offers breakfast so for other meals, guests can try a lobster restaurant down the road, or other options in downtown Bar Harbour.
