Bottom Line

Eden Village Motel and Cottages comprises 11 small and simple cottages and a 10-room motel on a large expanse of partially wooded land. Rooms are simply furnished, and include TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. Self-contained cottages have either one or two bedrooms and include kitchenettes, living rooms, porches, and outdoor grills, and some have fireplaces. The picturesque grounds have a private pond with ducks and geese where guests can fish and use free pedal-boats, and there's a playground and a walking trail. However, there are no on-site dining options and the property is not on Bar Harbor's free shuttle bus route, so a car is crucial.

Scene

Tourist hotel surrounded by picturesque grounds, with a quiet and private atmosphere

True to its name, the Eden Village Motel and Cottages feels like a tiny village surrounded by picturesque green grounds and forest. The low-rise white clapboard motel has cute details such as a long porch out front with chairs outside each room and windowsill flower boxes. Quaint white clapboard cottages are scattered throughout the grassy property and look like minuscule toy houses compared to the grand trees that tower over them. The office is located in a small room in one of the buildings, where guests are greeted by a tiny porch flanked by potted plants with white wicker chairs out front. The simple space has a rack of medicines for sale and there's a shelf with paperbacks to borrow, guidebooks, and visitor pamphlets.

The property is well-maintained and has a lovely pond with ducks and geese as well as a nature trail. Though close to a main road, the atmosphere is quiet, and cottages are spaced far apart from each other, which contributes to the overall sense of privacy.

Location

Countryside location a 15-minute drive from downtown Bar Harbor, off of Route 3

The Eden Village Motel and Cottages is located off Route 3, in the countryside, a 15-minute drive from downtown Bar Harbor and about 10 minutes from from Acadia National Park. Though close to the main road, the property is spread out, so there is no audible traffic noise in rooms or cottages. The motel is not on Bar Harbor's free seasonal shuttle bus route, so guests will need their own transportation.

Rooms

Simple, functional motel rooms and self-contained cottages with generic decor

The Eden Village Motel and Cottages has both motel rooms and self-contained cottages. All lodgings are simple but clean, with generic decor that lacks character and looks dated. Expect cheap patterned bedspreads, carpeted floors, and wooden furniture. All rooms have cable TV, mini-fridges, microwaves, and Keurig coffeemakers. All of the cottages and some of the motel rooms have two-burner stoves. Pet-friendly rooms are also available.

There are three types of motel rooms available, with either a king, two doubles, or three doubles (in two rooms). Some rooms have kitchenettes with two-burner stoves, sinks, toasters, and cookware. Tiny bathrooms have small showers and the bath products provided are limited to shampoo and bars of soap. Motel rooms all share a single front porch and offer direct access to a back deck with picnic tables and lawn chairs overlooking the grounds.

The cute white clapboard cottages resemble tiny toy houses and have either one or two bedrooms; larger units can accommodate up to six people. The interiors are snug and a bit, but make efficient use of space, with an open plan layout that includes a living room area next to the bed and kitchenette.  All cottages have TVs (some have tube TVs), outdoor barbecue grills, and picnic tables. Most also have brick fireplaces. Cottages are spaced apart, so there's a sense of privacy.

Features

Lovely grounds with pond and free pedal-boats, nature trail, weak Wi-Fi, and no breakfast

Though lacking common spaces, the property is located on sprawling and picturesque grounds that include a lovely pond flanked by trees that provides a home to ducks and geese. Free pedal-boats are available for guest use and catch and release fishing is allowed. There's also a small playground as well as a nature walk on the property. There are no breakfast or dining options available on the premises, and while Wi-Fi is free, guests complain of weak signals in spots.
