The lobby of H Top Bcn City is small, but bright and welcoming, with glossy gray floors, a small wooden reception desk, and plenty of cozy leather black and orange couches as well as lime green armchairs. Just off the lobby is a room with vending machines and a small table to enjoy a snack. The breakfast room is the only other public space, a cafeteria-style room furnished with plain wooden tables. Overall, it’s a basic budget property with not a lot going on, but it still makes a suitable -- and affordable -- home base for budget-minded tourists.

The hotel is situated just a 10-minute walk north of the famous Sagrada Familia church in the Eixample neighborhood. It sits on a street surrounded by plenty of restaurants and cafes. Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau is a five-minute walk away, while Parc Guell takes 25 minutes to reach on foot. It’s a bit removed from the city center (a 30-minute walk or more), but with a metro station that’s a three-minute walk away, it’s easy to get around the city and see the major sights of the Gothic Quarter. It’s a 25-minute drive to Barcelona Airport, or about an hour via public transportation.

The hotel's rooms are bright and basic, with simple yet cheery decor that includes yellow statement walls, gray tile floors, and white beds with houndstooth bed runners and pillows. There’s a bit of visible wear and tear -- scratches and such to the furniture -- that indicate the need for a revamp soon. Rooms are a bit small and might feel cramped as there's not much storage space besides small closets. Amenities are limited to free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs, while the use of safes incurs a daily fee. The rooms lack coffee- and tea-making facilities, too. Bothersome noise due to thin walls can be an issue according to some past guests. Bathrooms are basic and small, with gray tiled showers with rainfall showerheads or shower/tub combos, sinks with little counter space, and basic toiletries. There are no hairdryers in the rooms, though hairdryers, kettles, and irons can be borrowed from reception (with a refundable deposit).
