Once in the courtyard, guests are greeted by one of the city's famous painted bears. There are bikes, colorful furniture, and plants, which combine to create a welcoming and cool vibe. The lobby is stylish but neutrally decorated, with exposed brick and pipes on the ceiling that offer a bit of urban edge. This juxtaposition is continued throughout the hotel, with some corridors and public spaces kept very simple and stylish in a muted way and others bearing flamboyant graffitied walls.

There isn't much of note in the immediate vicinity of Catalonia Berlin Mitte, but the city's sights are reasonably close at hand and there's an underground station just across the street. Alexanderplatz, a huge public square and the city's main transport hub, is about a 20-minute walk or two stops on the underground, and Berlin's museums are a 15-minute walk away. The hotel offers bike rentals, which makes for an interesting way to explore the surroundings. The airport is a 25-minute drive away or about 45 minutes to an hour on public transportation.

The Catalonia Berlin Mitte's 131 rooms are tastefully decorated, clean, and modern, with light-gray floors, pale walls, and charcoal and black furnishings that create a bit of an industrial loft ambience, without compromising on cosiness. The beds are comfortable and all rooms have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Rooms facing the inner courtyard are the most quiet, although noise isn't a big problem in the street-facing rooms.

The hotel's urban industrial theme is continued in the restaurant, Kunstwerk, which features hanging lights with exposed wires, metal pipes, and numbers scrawled on exposed concrete pillars. It's open for dinner and also serves breakfast for a fee. There's also a cocktail bar with an outdoor terrace for alfresco drinking. The hotel's small fitness center has free weights and a few cardio machines. For business guests, there are two fairly large meeting rooms flooded with natural light and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
