Casa Mariantonia

Originally built in the 1800s, the family-owned Casa Mariantonia was revamped and renovated in 2007 by the great-grandchildren of the original host, three siblings who continue to run the property. Situated in a charming pink, Mediterranean-style building with a flat facade, arched doorways, and wrought-iron details, the small property is homey and welcoming with plenty of spots to hangout, especially outdoors. The on-site restaurant and bar is situated in a beautifully landscaped garden among the lemon trees near the pool, while the wine bar is a modern and chic space with wood stools, tables, and wine-bottle displays. (Mariantonia herself supposedly invented limoncello using lemons from the property's own grove.) Inside, the decor is contemporary transitional with a beach-cottage vibe, including tiled walls, fresh white walls, and white wood furniture. The hotel hosts many international leisure travelers. 

The Casa Mariatonia is located in the center of Anacapri, the highest part of the island of Capri, in an area filled with private villas, hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops. Anacapri is quieter, older, and more laid-back than central Capri. The hotel is conveniently situated right along Anacapri's charming main street, a pedestrian street named Via Giuseppe Orlandi; and the bus stop, which can take guests to major attractions, is just a one-minute walk from the property. Guests can drive to the Grotta Azzurra in nine minutes. The Villa San Michele -- a turn-of-the-20th-century property where gardens have panoramic views of the island -- is a 15-minute walk, while Mount Solaro, whose peak is the highest point of Capri, is just an eight-minute walk. The ferry is about a 15-minute drive, and guests can get to Naples International Airport in two hours.

The nine rooms at the Casa Mariantonia are individually decorated with homey contemporary cottage-style decor. Distressed accents give them a vintage edge. Walls, furniture, and bedding are usually white or cream, while blue accents and tiled floors add a Mediterranean feel. All rooms have air-conditioning and each includes a balcony or terrace with a private sitting area. Each room also includes a wardrobe with a safe, a stocked minibar, an LED TV with SKY channels, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are generally spacious and fully tiled in blue, white, and beige. They may include a toilet, bidet, and standing shower or tub. Bathrooms have hairdryers, free toiletries, and slippers. Guests tend to prefer rooms facing the lemon grove. A Suite on the top floor offers sweeping Mediterranean views, as well as a queen-size sofa bed, an optional third bed, and two bathrooms -- a good choice for families traveling with kids. 

For an intimate, nine-room hotel, this property offers several posh features that add to its elegance and atmosphere. The hotel has a serene outdoor area with a large pool and stone terrace with lounge chairs and umbrellas. A public restaurant and bar, La Zagara, which opened in 2010, serves local dishes and offers outdoor seating in the lemon grove, while a chic wine bar of the same name, opened in 2014, offers drinks and light fare. A decent continental breakfast -- with cooked eggs, freshly baked cakes, yogurt, and more -- is included with the room rate. Room service is available during limited hours.

Small pets are allowed for no extra fee and the hotel has a concierge who can help organize tours. Wi-Fi is free throughout. The hotel can host weddings and other events. But this small property does have its limitations: Reception has limited hours, so late check-in is not available. And the property is closed between November and March.
