This mid-range 125-room layover hotel is located on the outskirts of the southern edge of downtown. The spacious lobby that doubles as the public hangout spot and dining area, and the rooms are clean and contemporary, if a bit spare. The
pool is functional, but lacks any atmosphere or views. This is one of the more modern options for the price in Cancun, but its location, combined with lack of lunch or dinner options on-site, make it best suited for short stopovers. Those staying longer may want to compare rates with Grand City Hotel
or Ambiance Suites, which are more central and have longer hours at their restaurants.

Small, clean, functional layover hotel in on the outskirts of downtown Cancun
The One
Cancun is a mid-range hotel that functions best as a layover destination. While
it has a modern decor and layout, Wi-Fi throughout, and a small meeting room
for up to six people, the lack of amenities such as in-room mini-fridges means that long-term
stays aren’t that convenient. The hotel does offer long-term discounts, but with no lunch or dinner options on-site, guests should plan on eating out a lot at the Plaza Peninsula across the street from the hotel.The hotel
caters mostly to European, Asian, and Latin American customers who are accustomed to
mid-range hotels without an array of features, the majority of whom are in town
for work or conventions. For this reason, the rooms are little more than a place to lay
your head, although the hotel’s included buffet breakfast is rated highly by guests,
as is the friendliness of the staff. The hotel
is a modern construction, and opened in June 2014. The
blue and white exterior gives way to an orange and white color scheme in the lobby area,
with large lettering on the walls, and guests can relax on sofas, chairs, or bar stools around the corner from the reception desk. The front of the building has views over Tulum Avenue, toward the Hotel Zone and Mexican Caribbean, while the back looks over the parking area
and tropical greenery dotted with buildings.
Location
On the southern end of downtown with your primary means of escape limited to taxis
On the one
hand, the One Cancun location is far enough away from the downtown hub that the
constant rattle and hum of the discos and bars are an impossibility. On the
other hand, the tranquil surroundings are also far from anything of major
importance if you plan on walking anywhere. The hotel is set just
behind Plaza Peninsula and just south of Hospital Galenia. There are several restaurants available at the Peninsula, as well as
convenience stores, so there are a few options within five minutes of the hotel
on foot, but the Hotel Zone and beaches are 30 to 45 minutes away by car depending on traffic,
and downtown is 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or bus. Buses
aren’t that convenient from the hotel, as there are no direct routes to the
beaches. Plaza Las Americas, a major transportation hub, is a five-minute drive. Thankfully, the hotel can call a taxi at any time
of the day or night, and there is a rate chart on the front door of the hotel
to help guests calculate the costs.

Spare modern rooms with no mini-fridges or microwaves
Rooms are modern but minimally furnished, with white walls, faux wood floors,
desks, bureaus, and black-and-white photos of local
beaches on the walls. Most (77) rooms come with a single queen-size bed that sleep up to two guests, and 48 rooms have two double beds and can sleep up to three
people. One of the rooms with a queen-size bed is the handicap-accessible unit, and features
wider doors in the bathrooms.Amenities
include flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. Showers and hairdryers are the standard for bathrooms, which also have faux marble
countertops, and simple ceramic tile floors and walls. Basic soap, shampoo, and
conditioner are included.There are no mini-fridges or microwaves -- surprising for a hotel that offers discounts for long-term stays.

The climate-controlled modern lobby area also operates as a meeting space,
hangout space, and eating area. Breakfasts are served here daily, but there are no lunch or dinner options are available. However, the breakfast nook has water, coffee, and tea 24 hours a day, as well as a microwave; bottled drinks and snacks such as sandwiches are purchasable at reception. There are two public computers available to use. While
in-room safes aren’t included, there are safes behind the reception desk, and guests
can program their own code in. Visitors can book space in the
meeting room if needed. The reception desk also sells detergent pods for the free laundry room. There is a clean, smallish pool with a tile surround and tropical vegetation, but the
white walls can leave some people feeling closed in. The pool area is complete with plastic loungers, umbrellas, and a smaller wading pool for the children.There are
52 parking spaces behind the building, accessible from Tulum Avenue.
