Opened in 2013, Capri Wine Hotel is a charming, family winery turned hotel run by warm and knowledgeable owners. The pleasant, mid-range property has a sea view garden and a small yard. There’s a wine bar with a wide variety of bottles and free breakfast is provided with indoor and outdoor seating areas offering gorgeous Bay of Naples views. Its 10 smallish rooms are simply furnished and include flat-screen TVs, minibars, and bathrooms with rain showerheads, and all rooms but one have sea views. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the Piazzetta, but guests find the curvy, narrow roads challenging after dark. Note that the hotel is open only from April through November.
Scene
Former winery with inviting outdoor spaces, sea views, and rustic appeal
Colorful flowers climbing over stone walls mark the entrance to the Capri Wine Hotel. Inside the gate, gardens sprout vegetables and grapes cover the property. Guests are even encouraged to pick lemons to make their own glass of fresh lemonade. The hilltop location allows for stunning Bay of Naples views from just about everywhere, including the breakfast area where guests sit on a stone patio under big umbrellas and look out at the sea. With wood floors and a wall of wine bottles to choose from, the small wine bar is an intimate space where guests can mingle with the charming owners and sample various varietals. The majority of guests are families and couples on vacation. Travelers should note, the hotel is only open during high season from April through November.
Location
Hilltop location within short walk to Piazzetta
Capri Wine Hotel is on a quiet, hilltop location less than a 10-minute walk from the island’s social epicenter, Capri’s famous Piazzetta where visitors will find a huge variety of restaurants and shops. The roads are narrow and curvy, though, and the walk back can be a bit of a challenge to navigate at night. Guests recommend carrying a flashlight. It’s around a 15-minute walk to the Port of Marina Grande where visitors can catch ferries to Sorrento and Naples. The hotel has parking available, but cars are only allowed on the island during certain times of the year.
Rooms
Clean, modern rooms with colorful decor, most with sea views
The 10 rooms at Capri Wine Hotel are clean and modern with white walls and tile floors. Curtains, headboards, and patterned bedding add a range of colors to the rooms, like blue, gray, and yellow. Decor isn't high fashion, but simple wood furnishings and color photos of Capri add to the appeal. Rooms are smallish, but most have petite, sea view balconies furnished with chairs. All rooms include minibars, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are pretty with marbled tile and shower/tub combinations or stand-up showers with rain showerheads.
Features
Free breakfast, wine bar, and yard with a swingset and playhouse for kids
The hotel serves a free breakfast with fruit, tomatoes, cold cuts, pastries, and cooked-to-order eggs. There’s an outdoor breakfast area with large umbrellas and stunning sea views, but the indoor dining area can be a bit cramped in inclement weather. The hotel also has a small wine bar on-site with a large selection of wine. A lawn with a soccer net and a small plastic slide and playhouse offers a spot for children to play. But the hotel doesn't have a full restaurant or swimming pool. The attentive owners can recommend restaurants, hiking trails, and suggestions for activities in and around Capri.
