Hotel Canasta is a boutique, family-run hotel set in a large villa a short walk from the center of Capri. Refined rooms are spotlessly clean with free Wi-Fi and furnished terraces -- some overlook the sea. There are also lovely ocean views from the small garden and swimming pool terrace, next to which a free breakfast is served each morning. Only being accessible on foot and lacking an elevator means this hotel is not ideal for the mobility impaired. For a pick nearer to the town center, and with a bigger pool, consider the Hotel Villa Sanfelice.
Scene
Refined family-run villa with a serene ambience and pretty garden
Hotel Canasta is housed in an elegant whitewashed villa dating back to 1958; it has been run as a guesthouse by several generations of the same family, presently by husband and wife Piero and Paola. While a complete renovation took place about a decade ago, yearly refreshes keep the property looking clean and updated (enough) throughout. The vibe is chic boutique hotel meets family home, with white walls and arty photography mixed with homey furnishings, original tile-pattern floors, and various knick-knacks. A serene ambience continues throughout the property to include the peaceful garden with scented pine and citrus trees, tropical plants, and views over the Mediterranean.
Location
Peaceful setting a short walk from Capri's bustling center
The hotel is located on a quiet street in a scenic neighborhood in central Capri. The bustling central hub and Capri's most famous square, La Piazzetta, is full of restaurants and cafes; it's about a five to 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. Via Camerelle, the island's most fashionable shopping street, is also just a few minutes' walk away, as is the Certosa di San Giacomo monastery, while the famous Faraglioni rock formation is around 15 minutes on foot. The funicular train that links the center with the port also stops in La Piazzetta, though from here the hotel is only accessible on foot (porters are available).
Rooms
Fresh and bright rooms all have furnished terraces -- some come with sea views.
The hotel's 15 rooms are spread over two floors, though there is no elevator. Decor is light and fresh with patterned tile floors, wrought iron beds, and a few chic contemporary touches. All rooms are air-conditioned with minibars, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, while traditionally styled bathrooms have wall-mounted hair dryers, bidets, and showers. All three room categories have the same amenities and all have terraces; superior rooms have sea views. Electronic blinds ensure rooms are suitably dark for late mornings in bed, though there have been reports of overly firm mattresses.
Features
Breakfast is served on the patio overlooking garden, with ocean vistas.
The hotel serves a buffet breakfast that includes homemade cakes and jams in the bright dining room or on the patio overlooking the garden. Options are fairly limited, but the spread is included in the room rates and served until late. An outdoor swimming pool is lined with sun loungers and surrounded by a small tropical garden that overlooks the sea. Transportation and porters can be organized through the hotel and Wi-Fi is free of charge throughout. There is no gym.
