Hotel della Piccola Marina

The Hotel della Piccola Marina was built in 1930 and still has a classic Mediterranean look with its whitewashed facade, open-air hallway arches, and a clay-tile roof. However, consistent updates mean this property is also decidedly contemporary, combining an earth-tone palette with bold graphic prints, pops of color, and nature photography in the lobby. Archways and terra-cotta floors throughout the interiors drive home the upscale vibe, which extends outdoors to stone walls and pathways lined with endless gardens that scent the air. The Piccola Marina is a popular destination for couples and honeymooners looking for a quiet spot to relax by the pool while taking in sea views from the deck. The covered sun terrace of the elegant poolside bar is another bonus, with wicker furniture and woven placemats enhancing the surrounding natural beauty. Children and families are welcome at the hotel, but there are no kids' facilities.  

The Hotel della Piccola Marina is located in the quiet but convenient Due Golfi area of central Capri, on a peaceful street surrounded by private villas. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops within a short walk, and local buses stop very near the hotel entrance. The hotel can also be reached by cable car. The edge of Capri town is within a five-minute walk, and the central Piazzetta with its busy outdoor cafes and designer shops is 10 minutes away on foot. Chiesa di Santo Stefano and Chiesa di Sant'Anna are also found in this vicinity. 

Elsewhere around the island, some sights are still walkable. The beach is less than 15 minutes on foot, but is reached via a long set of stairs, so it's not handicap accessible. The Marina Piccola area (which has its own lovely beach) is 13 minutes' walk from the hotel, while Anacapri is a (somewhat hair-raising) 10-minute bus ride up the cliffs. The Gardens of Augustus are a 17-minute walk -- the last stretch follows the historic and picturesque Via Krupp footpath, so long as it's not closed due to falling rocks. The ferry port at Marina Grande (P.T.C. Porto Turistico Di Capri) is about 10 minutes by taxi from the hotel, whose staff will arrange arrival and departure transfers for no additional charge. Total time to the hotel from the ferry port in Naples is around one hour and 45 minutes. 

Rooms at the Hotel della Piccola Marina are bright, spacious, and chic, with contemporary decor in a mellow Mediterranean palette with bold and colorful accents. Light taupe-painted walls are decorated with graphic prints in vibrant color combinations, or large black-and-white photographs of Capri. There are comfy armchairs or sofas and small writing desks, as well as open wardrobes with shelves, as opposed to dressers for storage. The tiled floors stay cool and rooms are air-conditioned. Bathrooms are big and striking, with black-and-white patterned tile extending into shower/tub combos with arched wall inlays that add historic character. Free toiletries, including flip-flops, are provided. 

Options range from Classic through Suites, the largest of which have huge terraces furnished with sunbeds and beach umbrellas. Most rooms also have furnished terraces or balconies, many with partial or full sea views. Ground-floor Superior Rooms have direct pool access from terraces -- a smart choice for guests with mobility issues as there are no elevators here. Suites and Deluxe Rooms on upper floors may have excellent views and tend to be quieter. In all rooms, minibars, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and safes are provided, but there are no coffee- or tea-making facilities. Housekeeping cleans the rooms twice daily, with turndown service in the evenings. Wi-Fi is free but very inconsistent (or non-existent in some rooms). 

The Hotel della Piccola Marina features a small, pretty swimming pool with sea views. The pool is unheated and surrounded by a deck lined with cushioned loungers and beach umbrellas -- the sunbeds tend to go fast, though. The poolside snack bar is actually more of a cafe, with sunny and shaded outdoor dining spaces, a full bar, and a menu of snacks and light meals served throughout the day. Breakfast is free daily, and is served buffet-style in the hotel's breakfast room. Both hot and cold food is served, and special diets are accommodated upon request. 

Inside, the small spa and wellness center offers massage services and a Turkish bath. In-room massages are also available on request. The fitness center is more of a fitness "corridor" with two cardio machines, some free weights, and a view of the wall. As for Wi-Fi, it's free throughout the property, but the signal is not strong. A desktop computer with Wi-Fi and a printer are available in the lobby, as is a comfy room with a large flat-screen TV for group watching. The hotel offers free transfers to and from the ferry port.
