A secluded wellness retreat with a luxury vibe, BodyHoliday Saint Lucia offers plenty of opportunities for guests to indulge in some mellow me time. The resort's multi-story, French-Caribbean-style buildings, housing 155 rooms in eight different categories, are built into the hillside and overlook Pigeon Island National Park and a secluded cove and white-sand beach. Some of the rooms are small and suitable for singles. This all-inclusive is one of the most luxurious on St. Lucia, with daily rates that rise above nearby Sandals resorts and sister property Rendezvous. The resort's huge temple-like wellness center is the hub for daily spa treatments, and there are also endless activities from archery to yoga.

With 292 rooms, the all-inclusive Club Med Buccaneer's Creek stands out for its size on an island beset with small, mid-range properties. The hotel's wide range of amenities includes one of Martinique’s longest hotel beaches, a beautiful, oceanfront infinity pool, and two open-air restaurants with excellent food. Room decor is somewhat spartan and unstylish, and we spotted wear like stained furniture. But most visitors shouldn't dwell on their rooms too much in a place packed with free activities (windsurfing, waterskiing, snorkeling, wake-boarding) and group endeavors (water polo, beach volleyball, tennis, nightly dance parties). GOs -- a.k.a. gracious organizers, a.k.a. hotel staff, in non-Club Med speak -- are a sociable bunch and make it a point to introduce and spark conversations between stag guests. Independent travelers might also do well at the adults-only Club Med Turkoise.

The adult-only Barcelo Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana is the smaller resort in the Barcelo Bavaro complex, and offers both a tranquil vibe and extensive mega-resort features, including a spa, fitness center, golf course, and numerous pools. Barcelo Bavaro Beach is located on one of the best beaches in the area, and features four on-site restaurants, two bars, and rooms with modern technology and beachy decor. Every October, the resort hosts Singles Week, a seven-day affair where the entertainment staff leads connection-building group activities such as yoga, trivia, kayak races, beach sports, dance-offs, and theme parties, like 80s night, karaoke, and white-attire soirees.

The 519-room Grand Lucayan is a sprawling, beachfront resort that's a 15-minute drive from the airport. On-site dining and drinking options include a dozen restaurants, cafes, and bars. A state-of the-art spa and fitness center, a huge (albeit unheated) serpentine pool with a swim-up bar and daily DJ sessions, a golf course, and tennis courts are among the many amenities. Modern, island-inspired rooms feature balconies or patios, and water or garden views. But hefty add-on fees and long service waits are drawbacks, as is the fact that all-inclusive pricing does not extend to all amenities.

Like two resorts within a resort, Coconut Bay Beach & Spa Resort divides its 250 rooms in two sections: one for adults (Harmony) and one for families (Splash). Guests can spread out along a mile-long beach, as well as at five outdoor pools, while adults have access to a spa, fitness center, and tennis courts. All rooms face the Atlantic Ocean and have balconies and mini-fridges, but free Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby. The all-inclusive package includes three a la carte restaurants, premium liquors, and free transfers from the airport. There are numerous excursions to embark upon, like catamaran rides and jaunts to the botanical gardens and natural hot sulfur springs on the south side of the island. Nightly entertainment may include steel-drum bands, stilt walkers, adult-only pool parties, karaoke, DJ shows, rum tastings, and Saturday-night hoedowns.

Those looking for a relaxed vacation with some yoga thrown in should look elsewhere. This is a serious ashram by an established group (there are nine Sivananda Yoga Ashrams throughout the world) and the 5:30 a.m. wake-up bell proves it. Guests focus on postures, breathing, positive thinking, and meditation, and have some free time to take advantage of the beautiful beach setting. Seemingly a world away from neighboring mega-resort Atlantis, this five-and-a-half acre, mid-range oasis has a range of accommodations from single-occupancy tents to Beachfront Suites (most rooms have shared bathrooms, though). Two vegetarian meals are served cafeteria-style after each two-hour yoga class; communal seating around the kitchen, as well as morning/evening satsangs (a mix of meditation, chanting, lectures, singing and dancing), help create a sense of community. Extra workshops and lectures are built into the daily schedule, and there's a wellbeing center for massage treatments and Ayurvedic body treatments.

The adult-only, mid-range Breezes Varadero isn’t flashy or fancy, but it offers a pleasant all-inclusive vacation with a surprising amount of local touches that give guests a sense of being in Cuba. The grounds are blanketed with local flora, and the staff serves up spit-roasted pig or fresh coconut water in the shell. But it’s the usual resort draws of white-sand beaches and a lively pool, both with bar service, that are the main attractions for guests. Its 270 rooms are cheery, if a bit dated, but they give a perfectly adequate place to crash out at the end of a day of sun and sand. Every September, the resort hosts International Singles Week (a bit of a misnomer, since it actually occurs the first two weeks of the month), with singles-centric social events that prompt playful interacting.

Designed for adventurous couples and singles in search of adding a bit of spice to their vacation, the all-inclusive Hedonism II is a popular swinger- and exhibitionist-friendly mid-range resort on Seven Mile Beach. With a wide variety of activities, entertainment (like live music in the evening, plus raunchy costume parties and theme nights), and lots of dining and drinking options (including late-night burgers and pizza), this adult-only resort spurs guests to explore their wild sides. There are clothing-optional and nude sections of the resort to accommodate different comfort levels, and property highlights include the lively nude beach, waterslide, and a variety of pools and whirlpools on both sides. Though the atmosphere is overtly sexual, it is safe, respectful, and open-minded.

Surrounded by other luxury resorts on the beaches of Bavaro, just north of Punta Cana, Breathless Punta Cana is a massive adults-only property offering extensive amenities. You'll find multiple pools, lazy rivers, swim-up bars, dance classes, and a whole host of restaurants offering everything from buffet selections to Lebanese fare. The common areas feature a retro-chic aesthetic that toes the line between Star Trek and the Swinging '60s and the grassy, manicured grounds are evocative of a golf course, albeit one with its own golden-sand beach. Xhale Club guests get extra perks, notably access to exclusive lounges and their own section of beachfront lounge chairs. The Breathless Punta Cana Casino features slots and table games, while the Unlimited Luxury adults-only offerings means guests get reservation-free dining at a la carte restaurants to free nightly entertainment and parties, perfect for mingling with other guests.

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana is suited to all sorts of guests, with 1,790 rooms that run the gamut from the entry-level Caribbean Suite clear up to a penthouse-level Rockstar Suite with its own baby grand piano. All the restaurants have their own menus, with over a dozen options serving everything from Japanese fare to steaks, and all but the upscale Simon Mansion are covered in the hotel's all-inclusive plan. The massive luxury resort is also home to the largest casino in the DR (and the second-largest in the Caribbean), featuring everything from poker to slots as well as a sports book, VIP rooms, and a nightclub. There’s also an 18-hole golf course, a beautiful spa with a gym, and plenty of beach space, and its massive size make it easy to feel blissfully anonymous.

Situated in the relatively quiet part of Uvero Alto in Punta Cana, CHIC by Royalton Luxury Resorts is an adults-only all-inclusive that exudes contemporary elegance, with sleek rooms featuring purple LED-light accents and stylish bathrooms, a huge pool with a swim-up bar, a gorgeous beach with palapas and daybeds, and a solid array of dining options. Diamond Club guests get extra perks, including access to a small private pool and designated lounge areas on the beach plus premium in-room liquor options. Although this property caters to couples, its modern aesthetic detracts from its romantic beachfront setting, so singles are unlikely to feel awkward here.
