The 4R Playa Park Hotel is a family-oriented hotel, with plenty of activities to keep kids busy, including a kids' club, a kids' pool, a game room with air hockey and arcade machines, an outdoor playground. The style throughout the property is simple and straightforward, if a bit dated. Expect to see lots of pink granite and tan marble throughout the hotel's public areas. along with chunky overstuffed sofas and chairs. The hotel aspires to be a resort, and the larger swimming pool has tables and lounge chairs where guests can gather. The Costa Dorada Restaurant, with white linen table cloths and wooden high-back chairs, is a simple venue and lacks much ambience, though it's buffets are popular with guests. There are several bars, both indoor and outdoor, which have pool tables and plenty of places to sip a cocktail while taking in the hotel's entertainment. The majority of guests here are families, but plenty of couples pass through as well. 

Located on a tree-lined street outside of the center of Salou, the hotel is a 10-minute drive from the middle of town and Salou's train station. Much of the action in the hotel's part of town takes place along Avinguda de Carles Buigas, which is filled with restaurants, bars, and clubs -- it's a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The closest beach is Capellans Beach, also a 10-minute walk from the hotel, while it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the much larger Llevant Beach. There are plenty of family-friendly activities in the area, including Costa Caribe Aquatic Park, a 15-minute drive from the hotel, and PortAventura Theme Park, a 10-minute drive. The park also has thrill rides for larger kids and adults. The Necropolis Paleocristiana de Tarragona Museum is a 13-minute drive from the hotel, while Port Halley shopping center, which has a bowling alley and a supermarket, is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Reus Airport is about a 20-minute drive from the hotel, while Barcelona El-Prat Airport takes 80 minutes to reach by road.

The 315 guest rooms at 4R Playa Park Hotel include Standard Rooms and Sea View Rooms, as well as the more updated, higher-priced Atico Rooms. Standard Rooms are clean and simple, with wood-veneer and laminate furniture, floors, and work desks. There's a good deal of wear and tear on most furniture, and most have a white and maroon, or dark red, motif. There's little in the way of adornment on the walls and some rooms we visited had outdated features like small tube TVs. All rooms have balconies or terraces with views of either the street, the pool area, or the sea. Atico Rooms are far more attractive, though still quite basic, with light wood veneer furniture that's in better shape, a more contemporary gray accent walls along with sharp striped bed runners. Bathrooms are small but modern across the board, and come with either showers or baths, wall-mounted hair dryers. All rooms are air-conditioned, and feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and beach towels. Safes and mini-fridges can be rented. There are seven accessible rooms available. Noise from inside the hotel may be audible in some guest rooms. 

Like many hotels in the area, this property has plenty of family-friendly offerings for its guests. There is kids' club, complete with an outdoor playground and a game room with arcade machines and a mini-golf course, as well as two swimming pools -- one large and one small -- with ample tables and lounge chairs. Plenty of poolside activities happen throughout the day as well. The hotel offers a nightly entertainment program, including live music and dance performances, much of it geared towards kids. There are luggage scales, billiards, and handy jump-on computers in the recreation room. The on-site restaurant serves a buffet breakfast of eggs, fresh fruit, cold meats, and cava. Guests should check as to whether it is included in their room rates or not, and buffets are offered for lunch and dinner as well, along with theme nights. There are also bars throughout the hotel serving all manner of cocktails, wine, and beer, many with outdoor seating. Basic Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and premium in-room Wi-Fi is available for a fee. There is only limited parking and it must be reserved in advance -- expect fees.
