The 60-room High Line Hotel is an upscale boutique hotel in trendy Chelsea. Attached to a working theological seminary and private chapel, the hotel is notable for its historically significant architecture, beautiful gardens, and jaw-dropping event space, like the gothic Refectory. Luxurious rooms and suites have plush king beds, pine wood floors, unique antique furnishings, bathrobes, and C.O. Bigelow bath products. In the warmer months, guests can enjoy champagne and oysters on the outdoor terrace restaurant, and Intelligentsia Coffee (from Chicago) serves serious caffeine fixes and local pastries in the lobby year round. 

The 316-room Dream Downtown has high-design modern style with plenty of playful nods to the building's history as a maritime operations center (the Maritime Hotel operates the other half of the structure). Specifically, there are porthole windows on the modernist facade, and glass windows in the bottom of the pool, overlooking the lobby. The hyper-modern style and porthole windows continue in the rooms, all of which feature amenities like 40-inch LED Smart TVs, Tivoli radios, impressive minibars, and blackout curtains. The rooms' Jetson-esque aesthetic may not suit all tastes; traditionalists will likely prefer the elegant and romantic accommodations at the High Line. Dream Downtown's scene is decidedly hip, whether at the pool deck, rooftop lounge, basement bar and club, or sleek Japanese restaurant. Aside from these hot spots, the hotel also features a luxury hair salon, an art exhibition space with rotating works, and a Mexican eatery.

Housed in the same porthole-window-studded building as Dream Downtown, the 125-room Maritime Hotel is a charming, upscale property that offers the look of a vintage luxury liner. Large "ship cabin" inspired rooms are spacious for Manhattan and feature teakwood walls and penny-tile bathrooms with rainfall showers. They're packed with amenities, too -- HDTVs, minibars, digital music players, robes, and nice C.O. Bigelow toiletries. The hotel has a chic basement level nightclub and an Italian trattoria with a tapas bar and a Michelin-starred dinner menu. Staff offer concierge service and 24-hour room service, plus pets stay free. Wellness facilities are limited though -- there's a small gym, but no pool or spa. By comparison, Dream Downtown offers more amenities -- like a pool -- but lacks the thematic charm and intimacy of this smaller hotel. 

This modern 56-room boutique caters to an art and design crowd. Thoughtful room amenities include personal iPads, blackout shades, hanging fireplaces, and luxurious (if small) bathrooms with Aesop products and rainfall showerheads. The rooms are quite minimalist; those seeking more charm (and more square footage) might sooner opt for Maritime's generous stateroom-inspired guest rooms. Hotel Americano's 14th-floor rooftop grill, lounge, and seasonal pool is a standout feature, and is especially popping during the hotel’s summer pool parties. In all, the hotel is an ideal spot for younger couples and business folk not on a budget -- and while the proximity to the Hudson River is nice, it also means the hotel is a bit farther from public transport.
