Bottom Line

The five-room Posada Lizard House is a budget inn located on the main avenue that runs the length of this small island. Guests can walk to town in less than 10 minutes and to the beach in 10 to 15 minutes. Rooms aren't fancy, but they are colorful and have air-conditioning, fans, flat-screen TVs, and safes. Unfortunately, while all bathrooms are private, they're small and a bit musty,. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. A small open-air terrace with hammocks and a few chairs provides a nice hangout spot. This is among the lowest-priced hotels on the island, but features are limited in the extreme. A slightly pricier alternative is the Posada Turistica Colors of the Sea, where rooms are a bit fresher.

Posada Nativa Lizard House

Scene

Eclectic, colorful inn with quirky charm, suitable for non-fussy tourists on a budget

This small posada was previously the private home of the current owners. It still has a cozy, homey feel, complete with resident pets. The owner is a painter and sculptor, and his artwork is on display throughout, along with items collected on his travels. Like the rest of the inn, the open-air lobby is a colorful, eclectic space with a red rug atop a blue tile floor, and hammocks and flags hanging from the ceiling. A little terrace with some tables and potted plants sits adjacent. Mosaic tile work on the ground adds a colorful touch. This place could use some fresh paint and a bit of sprucing up, but it's got a quirky charm all its own. It draws budget-conscious tourists who aren't too picky and are looking for a taste of true island life.

Location

Located on main avenue across the island, within a 10-minute walk of San Andres Town

The Posada Lizard House is located on the main avenue that crosses the island from one end to the other. Around the hotel are other posadas, as well as a school and hardware store. A mini-mart is located about a block and a half away. Guests can walk to San Andres Town in less than 10 minutes, and the beach can be reached in 10 to 15 minutes on foot, but there is lots of traffic going by in both directions. San Luis is 15 to 20 minutes away by car. Aeropuerto Internacional Gustavo Rojas Pinilla is a five-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Colorful rooms with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and en-suite bathrooms

Rooms here are all decorated differently, but they're eclectically colorful, with funky artwork hanging on the white walls. It all feels a little mismatched and ramshackle, but that is -- actually -- part of the property's budget charm. The Single and Double Standards are small, but rooms with three twin beds are a little larger. Amenities include air-conditioning supplemented by fans, flat-screen TVs with cable, safes, and free Wi-Fi. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, although they are a bit musty, with mildew on tiled surfaces, and some of the tiles are cracked. Hairdryers are included, and towels are provided Monday through Saturday.

Features

Free Wi-Fi, small communal kitchen, refrigerator with beer and bottled water for sale

Features are slim here, and it's mostly a place to unwind after a day touring the island. There's a small communal kitchen with a microwave, sink, and stove, plus supplies for cooking, but the space is a cramped and cluttered. A refrigerator in the lobby has cold beer and bottled water for sale. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
