The Orchids’ intimate vibe makes it the ultimate romantic spot for couples. The 19th-century Neoclassical building -- pink-fronted, conservation-listed, and practically unbranded -- looks more like a residential property than a hotel. The design concept throughout features dramatic contrasts between old and new. In the elegant lobby, dark-wood pillars, classic wall art, and scattered vintage seating are strikingly juxtaposed against an ultra-modern glass elevator. The tall-ceilinged, intimate space -- more like a palatial home than a hotel -- includes attractive floral-patterned floor tiling and mustard-yellow walls. A skylight allows natural light to stream in. There’s a pleasant water feature, and both living room like spaces (including a cozy library dedicated to Oscar Wilde) and the discreet front desk have a homey feel. Befitting the hotel’s name, the floral theme is carried throughout. 

The hotel is set on a narrow and busy atmospheric street at the heart of Bogota’s old-town Candelaria District. It's conveniently within walking distance from many popular attractions and restaurants.

Each of the eight quiet suites are individually decorated and appointed, though some guests find the decor a bit fussy. All are bright, spacious, and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. Highlights include the English-influenced Dido and Aeneas Room’s handsome dark-wood flooring and striking gold-and-blue floral-patterned accent wallpaper, along with a contrasting elegant cream fabric headboard and gold-sprayed bureau-style desk. The Barbarie di Siviglia Room has romantic deep-red accents, an inviting daybed, and a juxtaposing modern arched foot lamp. Olive greens dominate the Traviatta Room, along with its lovely cream ottoman and glass desk. The imperial-design Midsummer Night Dream Room has gold accents, an impressive dark-wood four-poster bed, and high-armed red velvet armchairs, plus a gorgeous cream fireplace, and ornately decorated French Neoclassical ceilings.

Most of the large, classy bathrooms have walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, and attractive vanities. The Dido and Aeneas Room features a homey in-room sink and dressing table. Its partially open, all-white bathroom has lovely mosaic detailing, and the 11 Barbarie di Siviglia bathroom’s elegant tan-wood vanity sports a gorgeous octagonal sink. Traviatta and Midsummer Night Dream Rooms have beautiful slipper tubs, the former in the bedroom, and the latter includes a bidet and separate dressing room. The Tristan und Isolde Room comes with a double whirlpool bathtub.

Amenities across all suites include flat-screen TVs, video-call-enabled phones, free Wi-Fi, safes, a pillow menu, bathrobes, and mini toiletries by Le Couvent des Minimes, but there are no mini-fridges or coffee- and tea-making facilities, and rooms lack balconies. Almost all of the rooms have lovely wood-burning heaters or fireplaces. Limited connecting rooms are available.

This small boutique property lacks conventional luxury facilities like a pool, gym, or spa. However, the free cooked-to-order breakfast, served any time, gets rave reviews. There’s a-la-carte fine dining and room service, but advance booking is necessary, and there isn't a bar. Other facilities include the Oscar Wilde Library, plus the Marcel Proust courtyard and the Chopin Salon lounge, both off the lobby, where objets d’art are also for sale. Butler service is provided, the staff is consistently praised, and guests get free walking tours (plus perks like wine tastings with longer stays). Personal shopper services and private airplane transfers are available. Guests can use computers in the lobby. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
