Located in an industrial area far from sights

A few complaints about cleanliness
Located in an uninspiring industrial area outside Copenhagen city center, Scandic Sydhavnen is a modern and light-filled upper-middle-range hotel that attracts many business travelers. With 391 guest rooms spread over five floors, it’s a big place, and its location just two train stops from downtown is well connected. Rooms are spacious and bright with wood floors, but they lack minibars and some have wet-room-style bathrooms, a distinct drawback. Family rooms add sofa beds while suites include balconies and kitchenettes. Pluses include a free breakfast, gym, and sauna. There's plenty to attract families, like a play room in the restaurant, mini golf course, and swings. However, a better choice for travelers looking to be in the city center is Scandic Palace Hotel, set in an Art Nouveau building with a romantic vibe.
Scene
Large bright hotel that attracts many business travelers and families
Set in a modern brick-and-glass building, the large Scandic Sydhavnen is situated in an industrial area near a railroad and not much else. The hotel itself makes a grand first impression; the glass facade and high atrium ceiling create a sweeping, contemporary look in a building that otherwise has a utilitarian feel. Most guests are business travelers, which is reflected in the hotel’s extensive meeting and conference facilities. The hotel’s on-site restaurant, bar, shop, gym, and business center also mean guests can stay put for the duration of their stay and have all their needs met. But apart from corporate travelers, families also find the property convenient with details like a playroom off of the restaurant, a giant chess set, swings, a mini golf course, and welcome gifts for kids.
Location
In an industrial area southwest of the city center, but convenient to public transit
Scandic Sydhavnen is about a 10-minute drive southwest of the city center, in an industrial area with little of interest to leisure travelers. Thankfully, good transit connections make it an easy trip downtown: From Sydhavn train station it's two stops to the city center. The trendy Vesterbro district, known for its many shops and eateries, is easily accessible by public transit as well.- Seven-minute walk to Sydhavn train station
Rooms
Generously sized, sunny rooms, though lacking the expected amenities
Large windows allow natural light to flood guest rooms at the Scandic Sydhavnen, leaving them sunny and bright. Another boon: Rooms are generously sized, from a 200-square-foot standard single to a 600-square-foot presidential suite -- with high ceilings and wood floors adding to their spacious feel. Still, decor on the whole feels dorm-room basic. Pale wood furniture recalls IKEA, while brightly colored curtains and a few delicate lino prints attempt to decorate the space. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and irons and ironing boards, but amenities don't live up to the advertised "upscale" status. Only rooms in the Superior category and higher have tea- and coffee-making facilities and laptop safes, and for a mini-fridge you’d have to reserve at least a Master Suite. Various categories of Family Rooms are available, and all have pullout sofas for children. Top-floor suites feature notable extras like balconies, kitchenettes, and separate seating areas. All bathrooms have hairdryers and FACE Stockholm toiletries, but those in the most basic rooms have only a curtain between the shower stall and the rest of the room, a setup that can leave the bathrooms damp and guests grumpy. Other complaints concern views directly onto the parking lot from some rooms, inconsistent housekeeping, not enough towels, and low-quality pillows.
Features
Multiple meeting rooms, family-friendly features, restaurant and bar, and freebies like Wi-Fi and parking
Scandic Sydhavnen has a full lineup of features that reflect its business-oriented clientele, as well as a few family-friendly extras the chain is known for. All guests appreciate the sprawling on-site restaurant, which serves a free breakfast buffet including organic products and gluten-free options. It offers adequate fare for other meals and features a children's menu, and the adjacent playroom is a boon for parents. For snacks, light meals, and drinks, guests can head to the hotel bar, though some complain it's often understaffed. Room service is available, and the 24-hour lobby shop sells snacks and conveniences if an attack of the midnight munchies strikes.Apart from dining, activities for all ages are on the premises. Adults can make use of the hotel's top-floor gym, with treadmills, stationery bicycles, a cross-trainer, weight machine, and free weights, plus there's a relaxation area with a foosball game. The adjacent sun terrace has an outdoor hot tub to boot. Other features include a sauna with separate sections for men and women, a mini golf course, outdoor chess game, and swings for kids. Business travelers have access to extensive meeting and conference facilities including 20 meeting rooms accommodating up to 400 people. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, and on-site parking is free. Pets are welcome, too.
